二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Will it matter if you don't take your breakfast? Recently a test was given in the United States. Those tested included people of different ages, from 12 to 83. During the experiment, these people were given all kinds of breakfasts, and sometimes they got no breakfast at all. Special tests were set up to see how well their bodies worked when they had eaten a certain kind of breakfast. The results show that if a person eats a proper breakfast, he or she will work with better effect than if he or she has no breakfast. This fact appears to be especially true if a person works with his brains. If a student eats fruit, eggs, bread and milk before going to school, he will learn more quickly and listen with more attention to class.

Opposite(相反的) to what many people believe, if you don't eat breakfast, you will not lose weight. This is because people become so hungry at noon that they eat too much for lunch, and end up gaining weight instead of losing. You will probably lose more weight if you reduce your lunch and super!

【1】During the test, those who were tested were given ________.

    A.no breakfast at all

    B.very rich breakfasts

    C.little food for breakfast

    D.different breakfast or none

【2】The results of the test show that ________.

A.breakfast has great effect on work and studies

B.breakfast has little to do with a person’s work

C.a person will work better if he has a simple breakfast

D.those working with brains should have much for breakfast

【3】The passage mentions that many people believe that if you don't eat breakfast, you will _________.

    A.lose weight

    B.not lose weight

    C.be healthier

    D.gain a lot of weight

【4】Which of the following is not true according to the passage?

A.Poor breakfasts affect those who work with brains.

B.Morning diet may cause one person to get fatter.

C.Reducing lunch and supper is of less help in weight losing.

D.Eating less in lunch and supper may help to lose weight.

【5】According to the passage, if a student does not eat breakfast, ___________.

    A.he will fall ill

B.he will not listen to his teacher

C.he will not make progress in his study

  • 27、Reading is a great way to improve your English. By reading, you are receiving valuable language input. As you’re reading, you’re taking in language naturally, and you’re seeing how it all fits together. This is crucial to your learning.

The key to effective reading is to read things that you want to read. There are millions of books, magazines and websites out there. You couldn’t possibly read them at all. So the important thing is to find things that you like reading. Then, you’ll be motivated to read. And then the reading won’t be difficult. It’ll be easy! And then you’ll learn. It’s simple.

Remember: read what you want to read—what you like reading and what motivates and inspires you. But where can you start? Well, you could read a book that you’ve already read in your own language first, then in English. Magazines are also great. Find one that covers a topic you’re interested in: business, clothing, cooking…you name it, they’ll have it. Why not join a forum(论坛)?Go to google Groups, which has discussion groups based on common interests. Just type in the topic that interests you and join the chat.

Finally, how you read is also important. The best thing is to read without using a dictionary. Let the words flow over you. Just skip the parts you don’t understand. If you make your reading feel too much like work, it’ll stop being fun. Of course, you could make a note of any new words and phrases that you like or see repeated frequently, but try not to break your concentration too much. Also, set yourself mini-objectives. For example, if you’re reading a novel, read 20 pages a day. Very soon, you have been exposed to thousands of useful phrases and words. Have fun reading! You’ll learn so much!

【1】The underlined word “crucial” in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to “________”.

    A. easy   B. important    C. difficult   D. suitable

    A. to read millions of books

    B. not to learn grammar rules

    C. to be motivated to read

    D. to read easy things

【3】You can start to read by________.

    A. reading the news in English first

    B. reading a book that you’ve already read in English

    C. going to Google Groups to practice spoken English

    D. reading magazines containing topics you are interested in

【4】 From the passage we can learn that________.

    A. when reading you needn’t look up every new word in the dictionary

    B. the great thing about reading is that you can read without any effort

    D. to read is as much fun as to work

【5】 The best title of the passage is “________”.

  • 28、There are many superstitions(迷信) in Britain, but one of the most widelyheld is that it is unlucky to walk under a ladder—even if it means stepping off the pavement into a busy street!

    Walking under a ladder

If you must walk under a ladder you can avoid bad luck by crossing your fingers and keeping them crossed until you've seen a dog. Alternatively, you must lick your finger and make a cross on the toe of your shoe, and not look again at the shoe until the mark has dried.

    Umbrella

Another common superstition is that it is unlucky to open an umbrella in the house—it will either bring misfortune to the person that opened it or to the household. The superstition could date from the old time when its purpose was to act as a sunshade. If opened indoors, it might be considered to be an attack on the sun. Anyone opening an umbrella indoors in fine weather is unpopular, as it inevitably brings rain!

    Number 13

The number 13 is said to be unlucky for some, and when the 13th day of the month falls on a Friday, anyone wishing to avoid an inauspicious event had better stay indoors.

    Seven years bad luck

The worst misfortune that can befall you is caused by breaking a mirror, as it brings seven years of bad luck! The superstition is supposed to have originated in ancient times, when mirrors were considered to be tools of the gods.

    Black cat

In the UK, black cats are generally considered lucky in the UK, even though they are connected with witchcraft(巫术):You are said to be lucky if a black cat crosses your path.

1Which experience is considered to be lucky according to the passage?

    A. walking under a ladder

    B. opening an umbrella in the house

    C. breaking a mirror

    D. a black cat crossing your path

2Which of the followings is RIGHT in UK according to the passage?

    A. Opening an umbrella in the rain is not acceptable or unpopular.

    B. Black cats are generally considered unlucky because they have something with witchcraft.

    C. Bad luck brought by walking under a ladder cannot be avoided using certain ways.

    D. If you are to open a clothes store on May 13 in Britain, you had better change the date.

3Which two superstitions are related to history?

    A. ①②   B. ②④

    C. ④⑤   D. ③④

4It can be inferred from the passage that ________.

    A. breaking a mirror will cause bad luck because it shows your disrespect(不敬)for the God

    B. crossing your fingers and keeping them crossed can help avoid bad luck brought by walking under a ladder

    C. number 13 is always unlucky in any situation

    D. opening an umbrella indoors might be considered to be an attack on the sun

  • 29、Note: Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 埃斯特别墅经典车优雅竞赛

Sometimes, very rarely, a car event manages to fuse multiple elements into seamless whole, one in which different eras and disciplines are celebrated equally. A location such as Villa d’Este on Lake Como doesn’t hurt, either.

【1】 It was not my first time attending, but somehow it still manages to pull off that exceptional first impression over and over again. Italy has no shortage of atmospheric perfection — Venice in the rain, Cortina under a fresh coat of snow, Tuscan hills shrouded by morning fog — but a beautiful sunny latespring day spent lakeside among some of the coolest cars on the planet is hard to beat.

Flying the flag for Italy was a magnificent display of Ferraris, ranging from early coachbuilt examples and early prototypes all the way up to a competition spec F40 on the modern side of the classic car spectrum. 【2】 It was a fitting tribute (致敬) to the legendary brand that celebrates its 75th birthday this year, and a lovely reminder of the diversity of its catalog of cars, from the battle ready monsters to the heart melting grand tourers. BMW was also out in force this year, celebrating 50 years of its Motorsport/M cars.

From an event where prewar cars were once the de facto(事实上的) feature, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is slowly but surely moving on with the times, and this year the writing was on the wall, in bold black letters that spelled “Bulldog.” The mythical Aston Martin concept car of the 1980s seduced the crowds with its bold and boxy bodywork, winning the Coppa d’Oro, the public choice award. 【3】 Representing the more traditional side, a 1937 Bugatti 57S took home the juryelected Best of Show award.

Regardless of one’s specific taste, beauty was to be found everywhere this past Saturday, in shape, in thought, in sound, in the taste of the food and the perfume of the air. 【4】 Some are experts, others are simply along for the ride, but together they form a temporary car community that honors newer cars without casting a shadow over the pioneers —   it was an absolute treat to be a part of it all.

A.It is the youngest car that has ever managed that achievement thus far.

B.Some of us drank a lot of water, while others stuck to the tried and tested method of champagne — a popular option judging by near constant flow of waiters ferrying trays.

C.The Concorso is an event where the definition of “classic” is stretched into a wide net, and the ultra modern and futureforward cars also have a place here.

D.The delicacy of these early models makes them feel so light that they are almost floating in our perception.

E.The people, as always, made it extra special.

F.This year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este went way above all my expectations.
