People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northwest and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states have some heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.

Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feeling. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. Low air pressure(气压) may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. The Greeks started the Olympic Games almost 3,000 years ago in 776 BC. They were held nearly every four years for over a thousand years until they were stopped in 393 AD.
In order to take part, athletes had to be free men who spoke Greek. There may have also been a rule about age. They wanted the athletes to be youthful, or at least youthful looking. From what we know, athletes were supposed to only be men. However, there are records of at least one woman winning an event. The winners of the games were considered heroes. They not only got olive branches for winning, but also became famous. Sometimes they received large sums of money as a reward from their hometown.
The Olympic Games were held in Olympia, hence the name Olympics. They were held there because the gods lived on Mount Olympus and the games were held in honor of the king of the gods, Zeus(宙斯).
The original Olympics had fewer events than what we had at the modern Olympics today. At the first Olympics there was only a single event. It was a running race that went the length of the stadium, around 200 meters.
More events were added over the next several Olympics. These events included more running races of different lengths, wrestling, chariot racing, boxing, and the pentathlon. The pentathlon included the scores of five events in all: long jump, discus throw, javelin throw, a stadium race, and wrestling.

27、What do people do with their old, out of date but still useful computers? Most people don’t know how to deal with them. Many old computers are put away. Many more are simply thrown away as rubbish.
Finally, some companies are thinking of ways to bring down the number of old computers. Sony has agreed to help recycle old Sony products(产品). Dell, Hewlett Packard and other companies now also take back some old computers of their own brands.
In some countries, laws have been passed, too. Computer companies have to pay for collecting and recycling their used products. And 70% of the computer waste must be recycled. The idea behind the laws is that computer companies themselves should pay for the cost. That will encourage them to make computers which are easier and cheaper to repair and upgrade(升级).
Yet many people are throwing away good computers, while others cannot afford them at all. Hundreds of organizations are working on this problem. They collect and repair old computers. Some also teach others how to repair computers. These repaired computers then go to schools, charities(慈善团体) or people who need them. Giving a used computer to one of these organizations can turn one person’s rubbish into someone else’s useful things and cut down waste, too.

Number sense is not the ability to count. It is the ability to recognize a change in number. Human beings are born with this ability. ______________, experiments show that many animals are, too. For example, many birds have good number sense. If a nest (巢) has four eggs and you remove one, the bird will notice. However, if you remove two, the bird generally leaves. This means that the bird ______________the difference between two and three.
Another interesting experiment showed a bird's______________number sense. A man was trying to take a photo of a crow (乌鸦) that had a nest in a tower, but the crow always left when she saw him coming. The bird did not______________ until the man left the tower. The man had an idea. He took another man with him to the tower. One man left and the other stayed, but they weren't successful in fooling the bird. The crow stayed away until the second man left, too. The experiment was_______________with three men and then with four men. It was not until five men went into the tower and only four left that they finally managed to take a photo.
How good is a human's number sense? It's not very good. For example, babies about fourteen months old______________ notice if something is taken away from a small group. But when the number goes beyond three or four, the children are often very confused.
