24、A new underwater camera developed recently at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) could have many uses, including climate modeling.
More than 95 percent of the earth’s oceans have never been observed. This means we have seen less of our planet’s ocean than we have the far side of the moon or the surface of Mars. What is preventing widespread undersea exploration? The answer is the high cost of powering an underwater camera for a long time.
MIT researchers have taken a big step to solve this problem. They developed a new underwater camera. The camera is about 100,000 times more energy-saving than other undersea cameras. It takes color photos, even in dark underwater environments and sends images through the water. Most importantly, it can work for a very long time by powering itself.
The camera turns energy from sound waves traveling through water into electrical energy. It uses the electrical energy to power its imaging and communication equipment. After capturing images in the ocean, the camera also uses sound waves to send them to a receiver. The camera doesn’t need a power source, so it could run for weeks on end. And this allows scientists to search more parts of the ocean. The camera could also be used to capture images of ocean pollution.
“We can use the camera to help us learn what is happening to the climate. Personally, this is one of the most exciting things about the camera. We are building climate models, but we need to know more about the ocean. This technology could help us build more detailed climate models and better understand how climate change has effects on the underwater world,” says Fadel Adib, director of the Signal Kinetics group in the MIT Media Lab.
【1】Why does the writer mention the moon and Mars?
A.To suggest that we need to study the ocean.
B.To explain the difficulty in scientific research.
C.To correct a misunderstanding about the ocean.
D.To show our knowledge of the ocean isn’t enough.
【2】Why is the new camera considered a big step?
A.It takes over 100,000 photos.
B.It works for a long time underwater.
C.It costs little to build such a camera.
D.It operates well in dark environments.
【3】What is the main idea of the fourth paragraph?
A.How the camera works.
B.What the camera looks like.
C.How the camera moves underwater.
D.Which parts of the ocean the camera works in.
【4】What can the camera help scientists do according to Fadel Adib?
A.Prevent the ocean getting polluted.
B.Build more complete climate models.
C.Understand the reasons for climate change.
D.Get more people interested in the underwater world.
25、Let’s suppose it is a common day of 2060. Of course, things have changed and life is very different.
Trips to the Moon are being made every day. Taking a holiday on the Moon today is as easy as taking a holiday in Europe in the 2010’s. There are many scenic spots(风景胜地) on the Moon. And many hotels have been built. In order that everyone can enjoy the beautiful scenery on the Moon, every room has at least one picture window. Everything imaginable is provided for entertainment of the young and old.
What are people eating now? People are still eating food. But many foods now come in the form of pills, and the food that goes into the pills comes mainly from green plants.
Because of the rapid increase in population, most of the Earth’s surface has to be filled. The deserts are irrigated with water and crops are no longer eaten by pests(害虫). The harvest is always good. Farming, of course, is very highly developed. Very few people have to work on the farm. It is possible to run the farm by just using a few computers.
People are now largely vegetarians, and they eat only bread, vegetables, fruit and so on and they don’t eat meat or fish. You see, as the number of people increases, the number of animals decreases. So people have to be vegetarians. We are healthier both in our bodies and in our minds, and we know how to deal with all kinds of illnesses. No one has to be ill any more.
Such would be our life in 2060.

26、
If you put a buzzard in a pen six to eight feet square and open at the top, the bird will be a prisoner, though it can fly. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of ten to twelve feet. Without space to run, as its habit, it will not even try to fly, but remain a prisoner for life in its small prison with no top.
The bat that flies around at night cannot take off from the ground. If it is placed on the ground, all it can do is to walk slowly about helplessly and no doubt, painfully. If it reaches a higher place, it will be able to throw itself into the air. Then it takes off immediately. But on flat(平的) ground, it will never fly.
A bee dropped into a cup will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but keeps trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will look for a way where none exists(存在), until it completely destroys itself.
In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee. They are struggling about with all their problems and difficulties, not realizing that the answer is right there above them.

C.It flies only when it is dark. D.It takes off only from a higher place.
【4】What can a bee do if it drops into a cup?
A.It will escape from the top. B.It will stay at the bottom without moving.
C.It will lose the ability to fly. D.it will die of tiredness at last.
【5】What can we learn from the story?
A.Many people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee.
B.Animals will also give up when in trouble.
C.We should try new ways to deal with difficulties.
D.We should solve problems by ourselves.
27、Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.
Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his father, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family was no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.
By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing to study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study in Japan. There he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because he was in need of money.
After working for several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short story Diary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novel The True Story of Ah Q (1921) made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer. Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China’s future. In 1927, he moved to Shanghai and gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped him from publishing any more books. He was forced to write his articles using false names.
