25、Art is a powerful tool for telling a scientific(科学的) story. Many scientific fields study the strangest of the animal kingdom, like animals with a lot of eyes and bodies so different from our own. Art can help us experience these hard-to-imagine parts of the natural world and light new scientific discoveries.
Alia Payne, an art professor, came to the National Museum of Natural History to work with the live jellyfish(水母) collections. She always got the same question from visitors. “How do jellyfish stings(蜇刺) work?” She had the scientific answer but found it difficult to explain without a clear sight. An idea went through her mind. She built a 3D model of one of the stinging cells that visitors could touch. “I have always loved art for education.” said Payne. “We learn more easily when we have something to play with.”
While art helps people experience science. It also helps scientists understand the natural world. Dr Osborn, a zoologist at the museum, studies the surprising sea animals of the ocean’s largest habitat(栖息地)—the midwater. Midwater sea animals have special features to survive in their habitat, and Osborn’s research helps us understand what these animals look like. “So I started learning photography,” Osborn explained. “It was really important because these animals don’t look so great when they are put in the glass box in the museum’s collections.”
Artistic creativity provides a chance to show off the bright colours, special body shapes and good adaptations(适应性) of these animals to the museum’s scientists, visitors and the world. In turn, art connects scientists to their own creativity and helps with their scientific process(过程) and the communication of their discoveries. By joining science with imagination and storytelling, art helps show the beauty of the sea animals—even those fit for horror movies—and connects people with their curiosity for the strangeness of the animal kingdom.

A.She wants to show off.
B.She needs to get that job.

【3】How does art affect scientists according to the passage?
A.It helps them have more creativities.
B.It allows them to make friends with visitors.
C.It makes them experience the life of animals.
D.It brings much trouble to them.
26、Last fall a beaver(海狸) moved into the small stream(小溪;溪流) beside our house. He began taking down small trees right away, and in a couple of weeks our stream turned into a pond(水塘). Every day, he added more to his dam(水坝) and to his house. We're sure you've all heard the saying, “as busy as a beaver”. Now, we understand this saying as we saw the work that this beaver did over a very short period(时期) of time.
We thought that would be the last of the beaver's busy activity as winter came. To our amazement, however, he started chewing(咀嚼) on a very large tree. The tree was over 18 metres tall and around 1.5 metres in diameter(直径). We were amazed at the challenge(挑战) this beaver was trying. All winter, he chewed and chewed. He had setbacks(挫折) as we faced major winter storms and ice cold weather. But sure enough, when the weather allowed, he would come back and chew a bit more.
The beaver's first goal(目标) was to survive(生存)—to build home for the winter. Working every day with that goal in mind, he successfully achieved that goal. But the large tree he started chewing on last fall was a future goal—he wanted the large tree to provide new food and branches(树枝) for the coming spring. Even with the setbacks he faced over the winter, he never gave up until he reached it.
Our beaver's experience reminds us that we need to set goals for tomorrow. Sometimes just surviving seems to take up all of our time. But, if you do just a little bit when time allows and stick to your future goal, you will achieve it.
When faced with setbacks, have your goal in heart and don't let the setbacks stop you. Keep chewing like the beaver, and you will achieve(实现;获得) your goal in the end.
【1】What is the purpose of the beaver's chewing on the large tree?
A. To provide more food for the winter because of the snow.
B. To add more branches to his dam and his house.
C. To prepare new food and branches for the coming spring.
D. To keep working every day with a goal in mind.

A. between Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2

27、Some people have good memories and can learn very long articles by heart very easily. Maybe they read the articles just a few times, they will remember them by heart. Others can only remember things after hearing many times. Charles Dickens, a famous English writer, said he could remember every name of the shops after he walked by them. Many of the great men in the world have good memories.
A good memory can help people to learn a language well, especially (特别地) for students. Everybody learns his own language by remembering what he heard when he was a small child. Some children whose parents speak different languages seem to learn two languages as easily as one. In schools, it’s not easy to learn a foreign language, because students have so little time for it. At the same time they are busy with other lessons, too. Seeing, hearing, reading and speaking are the best ways of learning languages. As students, if we want to learn English well,we must practice listening, speaking, reading and writing as much as possible.
A man’s mind is just like a camera (照相机), but it takes photos of what we see. It can also take photos of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo with a camera, there’s much to do before the photo is finished and ready to show to our friends. In the same way, there’s much work before we can keep a picture in our minds.
