24、 DNA is the whole“ map” of the human body. It is something that all humans have, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our parents, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.
People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Mr. Mendel discovered why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things called“ genes” (基因)in our body. In 1953, two scientists, Watson and Crick, found out that genes are really messages. They're written in the DNA with a special language.
In 1961, another two scientists found the first" word" that they could understand in that language. It shows how DNA tells the cell(细胞)to build its parts. So far, scientists have found all the words in the DNA map, but we still don't understand what they all do. By understanding what just one“ word” means, we can help to save people from several illnesses. So the more we understand, the more doctors will be able to do.
Most people hope that this can help to make better medicine to help sick people. Other people worry that when we learn more“ word” and find out more information, we will use it in the wrong way. Just to make people more attractive, or stop sick people getting jobs.

China's National Development and Reform Commission is fast-tracking a number of measures designed to slash the production and use of plastics over the next five years. It announced that by the end of 2020, non-biodegradable plastic bags will be banned in supermarkets and shopping malls in major cities. The ban will also apply to food delivery services, which use vast amounts of the plastics. Dear Dr. Green, My relationship with my mother is worse and worse now. It seems she’s never tired of talking. She talks here and there, day and night. More seriously, I feel like we don’t have much in common. She doesn’t always understand what I’m trying to say. What should I do? Yours, Jim |
Dear Jim, I know how you feel. It’s not easy being your age. And it’s not easy being a mother, either. It’s common for kids to have trouble talking with parents, and talkative mothers are not new to teenagers. But remember, she’s nagging (唠叨) you because she just wants what’s best for you. Talking is her way to show love and care. And she also wants to know more about you. After a day’s work, she’s tired, too. But she will never be tired of caring about you. Kids should learn to understand and care about parents. In my opinion, it’s helpful to share school life with her. Then, you talk and she listens. Doing some housework together with her is another good way for you two to know each other better. And if possible, often tell her your feelings about the things around you. Always keep in mind: be polite and patient. Yours, Dr. Green |
【1】In Jim’s eyes, his mother doesn’t always understand what he’s trying to say.
【2】Dr. Green thinks it’s common for kids to have trouble talking with parents.
【3】In Dr. Green’s opinion, talking is a way for mothers to relax after a day’s work.
【4】Dr. Green explains three reasons for mom’s nagging and offers two suggestions.

To better know about China, Moody read a lot. In his Beijing apartment there were more than 160 books about China. Moody also learned to speak Mandarin and traveled around China to enjoy the Chinese way of life. Even after he became sick, Moody insisted on writing.
