二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Spending time outdoors, especially in green space, is an effective way to improve your health and happiness. It’s been shown to lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate while encouraging physical activity and keeping mood and mental health.

A recent study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research adds to the evidence and shows how little time it takes to get the benefits of being in the park Spending just 30 minutes in a park — even if you don’t exercise while you’re there — is enough to improve well-being, according to the research.

For the study, researchers surveyed 94 adults who visited one of three urban parks, over the summer and fall. They were given fitness trackers to measure physical activity but were not told what to do in the park or how long to stay. Each person also answered questions about their life satisfaction and mood — which were used to calculate the score of subjective well-being before and after their park visit. The average park visit lasted 32 minutes and well-being scores rose during the park visit in 90% of people. “People may go to the park and just enjoy nature. They relax and reduce stress, and then feel more happy.” study co-author Hon Yuen says.

It is for all of these reasons that the medical community is increasingly viewing green space as a great place where their patients can obtain physical and mental health benefits. Some physicians, like Robert Zarr, are even writing prescriptions for it. By writing nature prescriptions — alongside medical prescriptions, when necessary — physicians are encouraging their patients to go outdoors and take advantage of what many view to be free medicine. He said, “It’s about making a positive choice in their life rather than a discouraging choice like ‘they’re sick; take a pill. It just seems so much more supportive.”

1What can we learn from the study?

A.Park visit increases our life satisfaction.

B.The length of park visit affects our health.

C.Outdoor activity improves our blood pressure.

D.Physical activity increases our mental health.

2Which word best describes Hon Yuen’s attitude to park visit?

    A.Supportive. B.Conservative. C.Uncaring. D.Tolerant.

3Why do some physicians write nature prescriptions?

A.To force patients to make a choice.

B.To make patients free from medicine.

C.To encourage patients to see physicians.

D.To benefit patients physically and mentally.

4Which can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Outdoor Satisfaction B.Outdoor Benefits

C.Park Visit for Fun D.Love for Parks

  • 22、Interest in pursuing international careers has risen in recent years strengthened by permanent personnel shortages that are causing companies to search beyond their home borders for talent.

Professionals seek career experience outside of their home countries for a variety of reasons. They may feel the need to recharge their batteries with a new challenge. They may want a position with more responsibility that encourages creativity. Or they may wish to expose their children to another culture, and the opportunity to learn a second language.

When applying for a job, one usually has to submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV). The two terms generally mean the same thing: a one- or two-page document describing one’s educational qualifications and professional experience. However, guidelines for preparing a resume are constantly changing. The best advice is to find out what is appropriate regarding the company culture, the country culture, and the culture of the person making the hiring decision. The challenge will be to include two or more cultures in one document. The following list is a good place to start.

“Educational requirements differ from country to country. In almost every case of ‘cross—border’ job hunting, just stating the title of your degree will not be an adequate description. Provide the reader with details about your studies and any related experience.”

Pay attention to the resume format you use—chronological or reverse-chronological order. Chronological order means listing your ‘oldest’ work experience first. Reverse-chronological order means listing your current or most recent experience first. Most countries have preferences about which format is most acceptable. If you find no specific guidelines, the general preference is for the reverse-chronological format.

If you are submitting your resume in English, find out if the receiver uses British English or American English because there are changes between the two versions. For example, university education is often referred to as ‘tertiary education’ in the United Kingdom, but this term is almost never used in the United States. A reader who is unfamiliar with these changes may assume that your resume contains errors.

A.they find foreign employees are usually more talented

B.they need original ideas from employees hired overseas

C.they want to expand their business beyond home borders

D.they have difficulty finding qualified personnel at home

【2】The author believes that an individual who applies to work overseas ________.

    A.is usually creative

B.aims to improve his foreign language skills

C.is dissatisfied with his own life at home

D.seeks either his own or his children’s development

【3】When it comes to resume writing, it is best to ________.

    A.take cultural factors into consideration

B.learn about the company’s hiring process

C.follow appropriate guidelines for job hunting

D.know the employer’s personal likes and dislikes

【4】According to the author’s last piece of advice, the applicants should be aware of ________.

A.the different educational systems in the US and the UK

B.the differences between the changes of English

C.the receiver’s preference with regard to the format

D.the special characteristics of American and British cultures

  • 23、Energy independence. It has a nice ring to it. Doesn’t it? If you think so, you’re not alone, because energy independence has been the dream of American president for decades, and never more so than in the past few years, when the most recent oil price shock has been partly responsible for kicking off the great recession.

“Energy independence” and its rhetorical (修辞的) companion “energy security” are, however, slippery concepts that are rarely through, though. What is it that we want independence from, exactly?

Most people would probably say that they want to be independent from imported oil. But there are reasons that we buy all that oil from elsewhere.

The first reason is that we need it to keep our economy running. Yes, there is a trickle(涓涓细流)of biofuel(生物燃料)available, and more may become available, but most biofuels cause economic waste and environmental destruction.

Second, Americans have basically decided that they don’t really want to produce all their own oil. They value the environmental quality they preserve over their oil imports from abroad. Vast areas of the United States are off-limits to oil exploration and production in the name of environmental protection. To what extent are Americans really willing to endure the environmental impacts of domestic energy production in order to cut back imports?

Third, there are benefits to trade. It allows for economic efficiency, and when we buy things from places that have lower production costs than we do, we benefit. And although you don’t read about this much, the United States is also a large exporter of oil products, selling about 2 million barrels of petroleum products per day to about 90 countries.

There is no question that the United States imports a great deal of energy and, in fact, relies on that steady flow to maintain its economy. When that flow is interrupted, we feel the pain in short supplies and higher prices, at the same time, we derive massive economic benefits when we buy the most affordable energy on the world market and when we engage in energy trade around the world.

1What does the author think of biofuels?

    A. They keep America’s economy running healthily.

    B. They prove to be a good alternative to petroleum.

    C. They do not provide a sustainable energy supply.

    D. They cause serious damage to the environment.

2Why does America rely heavily on oil imports?

    A. It wants to expand its storage of crude oil.

    B. Its own oil reserves are quickly running out.

    C. It wants to keep its own environment intact.

    D. Its own oil production falls short of demand.

3What does the author say about oil trade?

    A. It proves profitable to both sides.

    B. It improves economic efficiency.

    C. It makes for economic prosperity.

    D. It saves the cost of oil exploration.

  • 24、After the Covid-19 pandemic began early in 2020, Traverso and his colleagues turned their attention toward new ways to reduce interactions between potentially sick patients and health care workers. To that end, they worked with Boston Dynamics to create a mobile robot that could interact with patients as they waited in the emergency department. The robots were equipped with sensors that allow them to measure signs of life. The robots also carried an iPad that allowed for remote video communication with a health care provider.

This kind of robot could reduce health care workers' risk of exposure to Covid-19 and help to conserve the personal protective equipment that is needed for each interaction. However, the question still remained whether patients would accept this type of interaction.

In Traverso's study they were trying to tide that up and understand if the population accepts a solution like this one. The researchers first conducted a nationwide survey of about 1, 000 people, working with a market research company called YouGov. They asked questions regarding the acceptability of robots in health care, including whether people would be comfortable with robots performing not only classification but also other tasks such as planting a tube, or turning a patient over in bed. On average, the subjects stated that they were open to these types of interactions.

The researchers then tested one of their robots in the emergency department at Brigham and Women's Hospital last spring, when Covid-19 cases were flooding in Massachusetts. Fifty-one patients were approached in the waiting room and asked if they would be willing to participate in the study, and 41 agreed. These patients were interviewed about their symptoms via video connection, using an iPad cared by a log-like robot developed by Boston Dynamics. More than 90 percent of the participants reported that they were satisfied with the robotic system.

"For the purposes of gathering quick classification information, the patients found the experience to be similar to what they would have experienced talking to a person," Traverso says.
