四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、①Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.

②Why do we develop self-driving cars? Self-driving cars have many advantages. They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer crowded roads and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.

③According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are hurt in accidents. Self driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money. The main cause of car accidents is human error (错误). By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.

④But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars wouldn’t see the lines on the road easily. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system would be broken by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction.

⑤It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.

【1】According to the passage, it is ________ to develop self-driving cars for disabled or blind people.

C.90 percent of self-driving cars would cause road accidents.

D.Self-driving cars could reduce the number of road accidents from 100 to 10.

【3】The purpose of the passage is to tell us ________.

    A.how self-driving cars work

    B.why self-driving cars were invented

C.what we should do to use self-driving cars safely

D.that self-driving cars bring both convenience and problems

“Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime (令人崇敬的). And, departing (离开), leave behind us footprints on the sand of time.” The lines are from A Psalm of Life (《人生颂》) by US poet Henry Longfellow (1807-1882). Chen Lin, a great educator, read them in a video when he was 96 years old.

The master of English education in China celebrated his 100th birthday in April, 2022. He has devoted his whole life to foreign-language education. In 1950, Chen started teaching at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). He was known as the “Professor of Three Ups”. He kept on “standing up” and “speaking up” in his classes. He always stood to teach and spoke loudly. But, when class was over, he would “shut up” at once.

In the 1980s, most teachers in China used the “teacher speaks, students listen” model of English education. But Chen encouraged students to speak more and practice more. He also guided students to master different language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

In 1999, Chen and his team developed English curriculum standards (课程标准). Before that, English teaching goals from primary school to university were not well-connected. But they changed the situation and made English education like “one package”.

Tasty is a mobile cookbook with thousands of recipes (食谱). You can look for recipes by ingredients, dietary needs and more.

If you are new to cooking, you can check out the “5 Ingredients or Less” section. It has many easy-to-make meals. Almost every recipe has a short video showing how to make it. If you feel the meal you cooked wasn’t tasty, you can leave a comment in the “tips” section. The app also looks really nice. It has many pictures of bright and colorful meals. You’ll be sure to feel hungry and excited every time you open it.

Are you trying to get into good habits or break bad ones? Habitica helps build healthy habits and achieve goals step by step. The app is like a game. You have your own avatar (虚拟身份). This app makes goal-setting not only interesting but addictive (上瘾的): “After three years of almost daily use... I can’t imagine life without it!” wrote Emily Fox, a user of Habitica, on her website.

ISE, this app will help you make beautiful memories. It’s about filming one second every day. You may think that one second is short. But if you put together one-second videos for each day of the year, it’s more than 6 minutes! When watching your video, you’ll feel like you’re on a memory rollercoaster.

To make a day-by-day film, just put one film for each day into the app. Choose the second you want, and then let ISE stitch these pieces together into one film.
