Dear Ms. Librarian (图书管理员),
I don’t know if you still remember me. Perhaps you don’t. After all, I am only one of the many people, at one time or another, who you have helped.
I don’t remember your face as clearly as I wish I could, but I do remember how you looked at me. I was nine years old and standing at your desk, not for a book but for hope, for a path (道路) forward. 1. 我记得你带着微笑,温暖地看着我。I just felt I was safe staying with you.
You were always there—a kind, supportive lady. 2. When I asked you a question, you would do your best to answer it patiently. When I felt confused (困惑的) because life seemed to be harder than I had imagined it could be, I would go to you. You would always calm (使平静) me down by sharing your love for books with me. 3. You would always help me find way out.
4. 我不知道如何感谢你,但是我会尽力。Thank you for letting me understand that books can be like medicine. Thank you for knowing that sometimes, people come to you not for books at all. You are not just a librarian. You are also a carer, a social worker, a teacher, among the many other roles you have served in your time.
5. How lucky I was to meet you! It’s you who completely changed my life. I am grateful (感激的) for all the help you have offered.

24、What happens when five Chinese teachers take over a British classroom full of teenagers? The experimental program was designed to test how 50 students ages 13 and 14 at the Bohunt School in Hampshire would deal with a completely Chinese teaching method. With long school days and tough rules, it’s considered to be "strict" to Westerners.
It took the BBC six months to choose suitable Chinese teachers. They had to be English, math, science or social science teachers with more than five years teaching experience in China. They also had to be able to teach in English. Though language was not a problem for the Chinese teachers, they weren't used to the difference between Chinese and British students. Li Aiyun from the Nanjing Foreign Language School told British media that when she handed out homework sheets, she expected the students to concentrate on their homework. "But when I walked in the classroom, some students were chatting, some students were eating, somebody was even putting make-up on her face. I had to control myself, or I would be crazy. About half of them tried their best to follow me. And the other half ? Who knows what they were doing?" she said.
While Rosie Lunskey, 15, told BBC interviewers that she found it difficult to get used to the Chinese teachers. "Acting like robots was the right way to go. I'm used to speaking my mind in class, giving ideas, often working in groups to develop my skills and improve my knowledge. But a lot of the time in the experiment, the only thing I felt I was learning was how to copy notes really fast and listen to the teacher, "she complained.

25、Zhang Fuhai, 70, is a follower of sugar painting—the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Tianjin. The sweet business was inspired by his father, who was also a sugar painter.
“When I was a little boy, the children in the neighbourhood would beg my father for sugar paintings,” he said. At 9, he began to copy the flowers and insects his father painted, and would even try to create sugar paintings himself. “I thought it was fun, but I never expected to become a sugar painter myself.”
In 1966, he finished middle school and became a carpenter (木工) and part-time tailor (裁缝), dealing with all kinds of drawings. He didn’t make up his mind to join the family business until 1980. In the following years, he would spend days observing small animals in the fields and rivers. Years of experience as a carpenter and tailor helped improve his painting skills.
His paintings are very creative. So far, he has created close to 200 sugar painting styles, and he updates (更新) all the styles every one or two years. If his customers ask him for something he doesn’t know, he will search on the Internet and try to design the styles in his head.

27、 When people think about the victory of the Chinese women's volleyball team at the 2019 World Cup, the name that first comes to our mind is probably Lang Ping, 59, one of China's greatest sports stars and coaches. She plays so fiercely that people call her “Iron Hammer (铁榔头)”. Next year we will see a new film about her amazing story.
Born in Tianjin, Lang started playing volleyball for a local training team when she was in middle school. She trained especially hard. In 1978, she joined the national team.
At the 1981 World Cup in Japan, the Chinese women's team showed the world their speed and power for the first time. Playing outside hitter (攻手), Lang helped the team win the game. Later, the team got another World Cup, two world championships and even a gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles!
After 8 years of hard training and fighting, Lang finished her career as a volleyball player in 1986. But she never said goodbye to her favorite sport. In 1995, Lang became the head coach of the Chinese national team and led China to silver medals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 1998 World Championships in Japan.
In 2013, she returned to the young national team after working abroad as a coach for 14 years. The team finally came back to the top at the 2015 World Cup. The next year, at the Rio Olympics, things didn't go well in the very beginning. However, her team took home the gold medal at last, making her the first person to win an Olympic gold for volleyball both as a player and a coach. Lang once sard, "Sometimes the chance is slim, but you still have to pull out all the stops"
At that time, Lang got less than four hours' sleep a night. She spent her time thinking about how to beat the team's rivals (对手) and get the players to do their best. Her words and behaviors influenced younger players. Zhu Timg, the outside hitter, for example, went on fighting against Korea even when her leg was badly hurt.
“The spirit of Chinese women's volleyball team is to never give up. My duty as the coach is to guide this young team to carry on this spirit," said Lang. The players always work together and fight until the end in each game, no matter how difficult it is. The spirit is about more than sport. It also encourages people across the country to make China stronger.
