24、The 24th Winter Olympics were held successfully in Beijing this year. There were many great moments during the competitions. What impressed you most?
“Welcome to China!” This simple greeting from volunteer Sun Zeyu warmed the heart of a US snowboarder (单板滑雪运动员) Tessa Maud at the Olympics opening ceremony (开幕式).
“That guy who had said ‘Welcome to China’ really just makes me tear up every time because they [volunteers] are so nice. We feel so welcomed, “said Maud in the video she shared on Tik Tok.
Sun, a junior student from Tsinghua University, is an example of how Generation Z (people born between 1995 and 2010) promoted cultural and people-to-people exchanges at the Beijing Winter Games. Active and open-minded, they bridge gaps in their own ways. Their pleasant personalities, global vision and new-age thinking made the Games even more fantastic.
Gen Z athletes shared their Chinese travels on social media. Some became big fans of Chinese food. Maud shared what she ate every day on Tik Tok-fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and Peking duck. What to eat each day was a hard choice for her. “Everything is so good,” she said.
Jenise Spiteri is a snowboarder from Malta. She became known as the “red bean bun girl” in China after she took a big bite while waiting for her score. “Goodbye to the amazing workers who served our food every day,” she wrote on social media when she left the Olympic Village. In the picture, she holds a big red bean bun.
Gen Z volunteers served the event with heart and soul. Alexandra Pozhidaeva, 23, from Russia, had a heart-warming moment with her Chinese peers. When the stadium (体育馆) was very cold, they lent her their gloves. She said it was touching as they didn’t know each other.
Another volunteer, Yang Jinhe, 18, started to work on COVID-related matters in mid-December. He will also work at the Paralympic Games. Back in 2008, he was impressed by the song You and Me. Now he said he really understands the meaning of “you and me” as well as the Olympic spirit of togetherness. “Even though the pandemic is going on, we are standing here in Beijing 2022,” he said on the show Youth Power (《少年会客厅》).
【1】Why did Maud cry over her video?

【2】What might “bridge gaps” mean in Paragraph 4?

A.The food is not only delicious but also inexpensive.
B.It all seems good to her.

A.He was a volunteer at the 2008 Olympic Games.
B.He sang You and Me in 2008.
C.He will take part in the Paralympic Games as an athlete.
D.He understands the Olympic spirit better after volunteering.
【5】Which of the following is not right in the text?

25、
In the story Snow White, the queen decides to get rid of Snow White forever with an apple filled with deadly poisons. Thanks to some helpful dwarves and a handsome prince, Snow White recovers, and everyone lives happily ever after.
But the queen didn’t need to go to all that trouble. In fact, apples and many common fruits we eat are already poisonous! But don’t worry the yummy part won’t harm you. It’s only the seeds* you need to avoid.
The apple tree is a part of a plant family called Prunus. This group also includes peaches, plums and cherries. There is a chemical* called amygdalin in the seeds of all these fruits. Inside an animal’s stomach, amygdalin turns into cyanide which can make people and animals very sick, or even kill them.
Still, don’t worry if you eat a few apple seeds by accident. Each seed has only a very tiny amount of poison. You’d have to eat plenty of seeds to feel any effect. And you’d need to chew* them well—the hard, shiny shells of apple seeds keep the poison locked inside. Unchewed seeds usually pass right through and come out whole in your poop. But cows and other animals often chew up seeds with the fruit, so they can get sick from eating apples and plums that fall to the ground.
Why would trees make poisoned seeds? To make them safe! Amygdalin tastes terrible. It’s also found in leaves and other parts of fruit trees. If a deer or a cow munches* on apple leaves, it gets a terrible taste and an upset stomach. Animals soon learn to leave those trees alone. Thanks, amygdalin!
Want evidence? If you bite into an apple seed, you’ll notice an awful taste. That’s the amygdalin. The apple tree doesn’t want you to chew up its seeds. It wants you to spit them out, so they can grow into new trees. Go right ahead!
Mirror mirror, on the wall, who’s the cleverest fruit of all?
You, my apple!

26、 Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they are sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be: your classmate, neighbour, teacher, long-lost friend or even a real stranger. But you know that every moment they will influence your life in some serious way.
Sometimes things happen to you. At the time they may seem terrible, painful and unfair. But later you realize that without getting over those difficulties, you would have never realized your further ability and strength. Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or with good or bad luck.
The people you meet influence your life, and the successes and failure you experience create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant (深刻的) and important ones.
If someone loves you, give love back to them in whatever way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things. If someone hurts you or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious(谨慎的) to whom you open your heart.
_______________________. Enjoy every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and listen to what they say. You should set your sights high, hold your head up, tell yourself you are a great one and believe in yourself.
You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

27、As we all know, it is often difficult for a mom to clear up after working for a day. So an Australian mother came up with a new way to solve the problem. She put money under the rubbish around the house, including toilet paper and pieces of paper on the floor.
When the money wasn’t taken away, she added the prize money. She said that anyone who lent helping hand could get some money. Unluckily, none of the family joined in the litter picking, so the mom had to take back her own money.
The mom posted the idea on Facebook with a photo of the toilet paper. She wrote online, “Needing something to encourage kids and husbands to tidy up around the house? Clearly this game hasn’t worked here yet, maybe one day. For now, I’ll keep raising the prize money, knowing it’s coming back.”
One said, “My kids would probably pick it up, take the money, throw it back on the floor and forget about the whole thing.” second replied, “No one will pick it up even if it saves their life.” Another mom left a large sign to everyone else living in the home that read, “Put your clothes away, or I’ll beat you.
