21、For centuries, people have been attracted by the origin of human beings and scholars put forward different hypotheses (假说).【1】It says that all ancestors of modern humans came from Africa. But in 2019, Chinese scientists found human remains and stone tools from 100,000 to 15,000 years ago at the Jiegedong Paleolithic cave site in Hanzhong, Shaanxi province.【2】
Pingliangtai site, Henan
The 4000-plus-year-old Pingliangai site in Henan province may give you some clues. In 2019, a drainage(排水)system, urban design based on a central axis(中轴线)and a double-wheel rut(车辙)were found in the site.【3】It updated the time of carts(二轮马车)with wheels in China. Combined with the drainage system and central axis design, it "gives a view of the ancient city with good urban planning in China", according to Wang Wei, president of the Chinese Society of Archaeology.
Xiwubi site, Shanxi
【4】In 2019, in a Xiwubi site in Shanxi province many bronze artifacts(青铜工艺品)aging back 4,500 years were unearthed. As the technology to manufacture bronze came to China, many rulers incorporated(融合)bronze into the unique ceremonial(礼仪的)system, so more and more complicated bronze artifacts were gradually developed.【5】
A.The rut was China's oldest one discovered so far.
B.According to Wang, bronze appeared earlier in western Asia.
C.Among them, the "Out of Africa" hypothesis is the most popular one.
D.Bronzehas long been considered one of the national treasures of China.

22、A wave. A thumbs-up. You may think you know what these common gestures signify…but what happens when you wave to your European friend across the street and she turns to walk the other way?
There’s a reason for her reaction.【1】While most Americans interpret a wave as a friendly greeting or goodbye, the same motion is just as likely to communicate the word “no” in parts of Europe and Latin America.
Obviously, body language is not universal.【2】
The most common understanding of the subject relates body language to spoken language. Generally speaking, the same body language has different meanings in different places, which is closely related to the traditional customs of the region.【3】For example, In Germany the thumbs-up represents the number one, but in Japan it means “five” instead. So to understand a certain body language correctly, it is best to combine it with spoken language.
There’s one more complication in understanding nonverbal (非语言的) communication, though.【4】In a study, participants from the West, African communities, and New Guinea were shown a collection of more than 10,000 portraits illustrating different facial expressions (the same man indicates different facial expressions, anger, sadness, etc.). Researchers concluded that there were at least seven universal facial expressions: anger, disgust, fear, surprise, happiness, sadness, and contempt.【5】
So while a wave or thumbs-up may not translate on your next trip abroad, a genuine expression of emotion probably will.
A.But why?
B.This is also true in different cultures.
C.The mixed messages don’t stop there.
D.It isn’t because your friend is tired of your company.
E.Indeed, signals are essential for effective communication.
F.90 percent of participants identified the same emotions in the photo.
G.Although body language isn’t universal, the emotions behind it may be.

24、I have been in Limoges for a month now. since living here, I have tried to integrate(融合) into the local community and one way I have found to do this is by following the local rugby team.
I decided to look for information on the local rugby team after the tourism office could not help me. I searched for the club office online and decided to look into it. The following day I went back to the club after speaking with them and decided to get a season ticket for the rest of my stay here. I will now be going to each home game as well as travelling to the away games with the team and the fans. I am sure that it is going to be a great experience during my time abroad here. I will also be travelling through various regions of France so I will be visiting new places throughout the season. There is another team in a town called Brive not so far away who play in the top league in France, but I decided to stay local. I may go and see them with other assistants if possible during our stay.
I witnessed a friendly match on Saturday when they played Stade Dijon in the division below them. The match finished 70-12. After the match, both teams went to the club house to see the Rugby World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and Australia. Both teams respected each others which is something you don’t always see in other sports. I spoke to the president of the club after the game and he told me, “This is a family club.” Hopefully this year will be a good year for Limoges.
