The night before the sale, we put toys on the truck as well as a little bike that was too short for my son now. This little bike had at least 2 owners before it came to my son. It was not in the best shape and it certainly was not shiny new but it was still a bike, and the tires(轮胎)were still good.
We put a price of $10 on it but it didn’t sell. So after the sale was over, my friend put it on the sidewalk with a sign that said “FREE BIKE”. Within five minutes, a little girl was standing there. She asked if the bike was really free. My friend said yes. The girl smiled and rode away quickly.
Later that evening when I told my son how much money he had made at the yard sale, he smiled. When he asked about the bike, I told him that a little girl was very happy because she got the bike for free. The grin(咧嘴笑)on my son’s face was much more than when I told him how much he had made. 23、 I love going to water parks for fun. However, many people think that water parks are bad for the environment, because the parks waste water. There is not too much drinking water in many parts of the world, so people think water shouldn't be used just to have fun. It's true that thousands of liters (公升) of water are used every day at a single water park. And there are nearly 2,000 water parks around the world, so that's a lot of water!
Water park operators understand that they need to save water, especially in places with dry climates (气候). One solution (解决方案) that has been developed is to recycle (再循环) water. Using special filters (过滤器), water parks are able to clean and reuse most of the water in their facilities (设施). Some indoor water parks are able to recycle as much as 97 percent of the water they use. Outdoor water parks lose water because of the sun. Building attractions in the shade (树荫) will help stop water from being lost. So new designs are being created in order to keep water in the pools and prevent it from being wasted.
Water parks attract (吸引) millions of people each year, so they aren't going away soon. If you think water is wasted at water parks, think about how much more water you have wasted so far! In that case, you could argue that water parks actually help save water.
【1】Many people think water parks are bad for the environment because ________.
A.the parks waste much water B.people throw rubbish away everywhere
C.the parks pour polluted water into the river D.people drive cars in the park
【2】One solution to solve the problem is to ________.

C.should do nothing D.actually help save water
24、 When throwing away rubbish, do you know which bin it should go in? Have you ever noticed the differently-colored rubbish bins on the street?
Some of you might not be able to answer the questions. However, it’s actually quite important to know how to sort(分类) your rubbish .Not knowing how to sort rubbish can make it harder to save energy and protect the environment. If you don’t sort your rubbish .all of it will be buried(埋) together .It can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees. Shanghai is the first city to put rubbish-sorting into practice in China .Shanghai government has asked all the people who live there to sort rubbish into four groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry.
“Wet” rubbish is also known as “household” rubbish. It is what people produce every day after they eat or drink. “It is the thing you don’t want but pigs can eat”, Guangzhou Daily explained. Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be recused are recyclable rubbish. Harmful rubbish includes things like medicine, batteries and so on. Finally, any rubbish that is not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the dry rubbish bin.
Many other Chinese cities, including Changsha, plan to use this method to sort their rubbish.
Now that you know this, perhaps you can do your part in protecting the environment.
【1】What will happen if we don’t sort the rubbish?
