21、 My mother is a teacher, and I grew up with the challenges a teacher faces. I often asked her,” Why do you teach? What keeps you teaching? "The answer was always the same." There is always that one child, that one moment that is worth it.”
Now, I am a teacher, too. But different from my mother, I teach students challenging activities outdoors. And when my mother asked me the similar questions, my answer was, "It's that one child, that one special moment.”
One of those moments happened recently. I was working with a group of girls in a four-week programme. Everything went on well through the "Team" events and we were moving on to a "High" one called the Wire(钢索)Walk. In the Wire Walk, each girl had to climb up the pegs(木桩)in a tree to a wire, 8 meters high, and then walk across it. Of course, everything was safe for sure. When I asked who would try, a few girls raised their hands, and they finished the Wire Walk with little difficulty.
But when it was Susie’s turn, it seemed that she didn’t really want to. I asked Susie if she was ready. She Answered softly, “I suppose.”
Now, Susie was at the foot of the tree. She started to make the long reach for the first peg. The other girls cheered for her. Then I found Susie was becoming nervous with every step. I realized she would not go much further.
Susie was halfway up. Then she stopped and held the tree tight, looking very afraid. Her eyes were closed. With her face against the tree, she cried, “I can’t.”
The other girls sat in silence. I talked quietly to Susie, trying to relax her. I talked for a long time till I ran out of words.
“I will still be your friend no matter what, Susie!" Mary broke the silence.
To my surprise, Susie lifted her head and looked up to the wire. Then she turned to look down at Mary and smiled. Mary smiled back.
Finally, Susie made it all the way across that wire. When she returned to the ground, the first hug she looked for was from Mary. We all cheered.
Moments like this keep me doing what I do. The young hearts continue to fill me with courage.

22、Morning, everyone. This is BBC Six Minutes English. Today we are going to talk about tips for travelling in England. If you want your trip to be a pleasant one, please keep these rules in your mind.
The first one is about drinking. Now, you are not allowed to buy alcohol(酒精) in this country if you are less than 18 years old. Your friends can’t buy it for you either.
Secondly, it is about the noise. Enjoy yourselves as much as you can, but please don’t make too much or too loud noise, especially at night. Too much or loud noise will make the people around you feel uncomfortable.
The third one is about crossing the road. Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. Use zebra crossings and do not move until the traffic light is green.
My next point is about littering. It is against the law to drop litter carelessly in the street. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin.
Finally, it comes to smoking. It is also against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 18 years of age.
That is the end of today’s programme. Now, are there any questions? If you want to know more about our programme, please contact us at 2066781578.

23、In the early days, many people in San Francisco came from China. Some worked as labours(劳工)in the gold fields, and others on railroads. They were poor people when they first came to America. They worked very hard to save money. When the Chinese could afford to, they built houses much like their homes in China. Some opened stores to sell products from China to other Chinese. Others opened restaurants to serve Chinese foods. These people enjoyed the things they were used to having in their homeland.
Today, Grand Avenue is the main street to the very large Chinese-American community called Chinatown. Children who live in this area go to the San Francisco City School. Some also go to Chinese language schools to learn how to read and write Chinese.
People from different places enjoy visiting Chinatown. They may buy beautiful carvings or silks in the Chinese shops. They like to eat the different foods served in the Chinese restaurants.
Visitors to Chinatown also enjoy hearing the sounds of China. The music seems strange because it sounds so different from American music.
The best time to visit Chinatown is during the Chinese New Year, usually in February. A big procession(游行队伍)to celebrate the New Year which is led by a huge dragon made from paper and silk is the most impressive show for visitors.

24、 In this age of Facebook and Twitter, we are all supposed to have hundreds of friends. But in fact most of us have just two close friends — down from an average(平均水平) of three 25 years ago, a study says.
Researchers (研究者) say there is no need to worry about that. Instead, they say that while some of us may be getting “more vulnerable (脆弱的)”, many are becoming better at deciding who is their close friend.
The result seems unexpected. Because a lot of young people are trying to make as many “friends” as possible on the Internet.
According to Facebook, the average user usually has 130 friends, but many of these are people who are known by accident or people the user will never meet in real life.
But the researcher, Mr. Brashears says, although the circle(圈子) of friends is getting smaller, which may make us more vulnerable, we’re not as “lonely” as the result shows.
For his study, Mr. Brashears did a survey in more than 2,000 adults aged 18 and older. He found that, modern discussion networks have been smaller in size. It is the same as other researchers’ findings, but few people have become lonelier.
Researchers asked people to list the names of people they had discussed important matters with over the past six months. About 48% of them listed one name, 18 % listed two, and about 29% listed more than two names for these close friends.
On average, one person had 2.03 close friends. And just over 4% of them didn’t list any names.
【1】According to the study, how many close friends do most of us have?
A.25. B.2. C.3.
【2】The underlined word “unexpected” probably means “________” in the passage.
A.有趣 B.令人兴奋 C.意外
【3】About Facebook friends, which of the following is TRUE?
A.The Facebook user never meet some Facebook friends in real life.
B.The average user usually has 310 friends.
C.Facebook friends are all old and close friends.
【4】The passage shows the result of the survey by ________.
A.giving advice B.telling stories C.listing numbers
【5】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.Many people are worrying about their circle of friends.
B.Researchers find many people have only two close friends.
C.Young people make as many friends as possible on the Internet.
25、根据首字母提示补全短文。
The world is not only hungry, but also thirsty. This may s【1】 strange to you, since nearly 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered w【2】 water. But about 97% of that is sea water, or salt water. Humans can only drink and u【3】 the other 3% the fresh water from rivers, lakes, the underground and o【4】 sources. And we cannot even use all of that. Even worse, some of it has been polluted.
However, as things stand today, this fresh water is still e【5】 for us. But our need for water is b【6】 larger and larger—almost day by day. We should take s【7】 to deal with this problem now and in this w【8】 we can get away from a serious water shortage(短缺) later on.
We all have to learn how to s【9】 wasting our valuable water. One of the steps is to develop ways of reusing it. Today in most large cities, water is used only once and then sent into a sewer system(排污系统). From there it r【10】 to the sea or runs into underground places.
