四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Have you ever taken photos by using mobile phones with selfie sticks(自拍杆)? This new invention is a small, useful and cleverly-designed tool.

However, a pair of US artists from New Mexico, Arie Snee and Justin Crowe believe they have invented a better one and they call it “selfie arm”. For better or worse, they have taken the world by storm. It makes those people in the pictures seem to be holding hands with a loved one.

The pair say it offers a far better experience than using a straight stick. The selfie arm makes people feel they are not alone when they take photos. It seems that they are together with their friends. They think their invention solves the main problem that the selfie stick has —people look alone while they are taking pictures of themselves with great interests. The product, at present, just an art project and a model, conveniently provides you a welcoming arm. And better yet in the future, it’ll talk in a friendly way and never get angry or upset. The pair say they are fascinated by these new ideas.

The “selfie arm” is made of fiberglass(玻璃纤维). It is lightweight and easy-taking.

The project that they work on shows the growing selfie stick phenomenon(现象) directly and the increasing need for narcissism(自恋) and Internet agreement.

    1The selfie arm is _____________________.

    A. the latest mobile phone   B. lightweight and easy-taking

4___________ will make people feel they are alone while taking photos.

    A. The storm   B. The selfie arm   C. The pair   D. The selfie stick

5The passage is mainly talking about _________________.

    A. a new kind of fiberglass

    B. a pair of artists who are interested in taking photos

    C. an invention that can reduce loneliness

    D. a cleverly-designed tool for taking photos with mobile phones

  • 27、We’ve been driving around in gas—powered cars for over 100 years. Once we run out of all the oil from the Earth, we can’t make more. Is it time for a change?

    Biofuel

One simple way to use less gas is to fill up with biofuel, a fuel (燃料) made from plants. Biofuels can be brewed (酿制) from corn, wheat stems or other plant waste. Even old cooking oil can be turned into diesel, a fuel used in trucks. Most cars can’t nun only on biofuel, so it’s mixed with gasoline (汽油). But every little bit helps!

    Go electric

An electric car has an electric motor that runs on batteries, which come in a big pack. Instead of filling up the tank, an electric car owner plugs (插) it into an outlet to recharge (充电). What happens when the batteries nun down? You need to find somewhere to plug in. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge an electric car. That’s not as handy as a quick stop at a gas station.

    Hybrid ( gas + electric)

A hybrid car has two engines— one uses gas and the other uses electricity. For short trips, it turns on batteries like an—electric car. But if the batteries are low, the car can change to the gas engine. This can, be a good choice for people who are worried about the batteries running out halfway through a trip. But when the car burns gas, it still gives off waste gases like a regular car.

    Solar power

Could we use the sun to power cars? Some car companies are working on it. A solar car has an electric motor that nuns on batteries. But instead of being plugged in, the batteries are recharged by the solar panels (太阳能板) on the car’s roof and body. To charge up, you just need to park the car in the sun! But making solar panels and batteries that are powerful enough to move a car is very expensive. It might take a good bit of time before solar cars are available (可利用的) to the general public.

    【1】What is biofuel made from?

    A.方便的

【3】What is the problem with a hybrid car?

A.It can only be used for short trips.

B.It is difficult to repair (修理) a broken hybrid car.

C.It still produces harmful gases when burning gasoline.

D.It is not easy to change from the electric engine to the gas one.

【4】What can we learn about the solar cars from the passage?

A.They cannot only run on solar power.

B.They need to be plugged in for recharging.

C.They are too heavy for the batteries to run.

D.They are too expensive for common people to afford now.

【5】What does the passage mainly talk about?

    A.Ways to replace gasoline.

    B.Qualities of different vehicles.

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、

When you’re bored, what will you do first? If you’re like many, the answer is quite simple: You reach for your phone. Five minutes of short videos or funny pictures seem like a p 1break.

If that sounds familiar, a new study has bad news. Reaching for your phone is likely to leave you feeling more bored. The problem isn’t taking a break. The problem is your phone. A research shows using phones can’t help people r 2 from their heavy work.

To figure out the r 3between phones and boredom, the research team installed(安装)an app on the phones of 83 volunteers to find out how often they used their phones. They also asked these volunteers to keep diaries for three days, recording their level of boredom every hour “ Phone breaks were frequent 频繁的): In the 20 minutes following each questionnaire, the volunteers picked up their phones 52 percent of the time. They spent an average of around 90 seconds on it  each time, ” reports  the  research team. “ The  more tired we are,  the most l 4we are to reach for our phones. While we look to our phones to relieve(减轻)boredom, screen time seemed to i 5feelings of boredom. The volunteers actually reported higher levels of boredom after having used their smartphones.”

The research team pointed out that phone breaks may end up being more tiring than stimulating. In other words, watching the funny videos is very nice, but it’s now w 6 the cost to your  brain in  effort and concentration. In addition, picking up your phone might remind you that you have a better choice to do something else if you don’t have to finish the tasks immediately. Both your time and effort are easily wasted.

What should we do i7? Taking a walk is good exercise. Calling someone can make your mood   cheerful. Reading a book gives your brain a fresh start. You can do many things like that. Just remember, don’t reach for your phone!
