26、When her five sons were young, Melody always told them that there was strength in unity (团结). To show this, she held up one chopstick, representing one person. Then she easily broke it into two pieces. Next, she tied several chopsticks together, representing a family. She showed the boys it was hard to break the tied chopsticks. This lesson about family unity stayed with the boys as they grew up.
Melody and her family own a large restaurant business in California. However, when Melody and her husband Danny left their home in Taiwan in 1980, they didn’t have much money. They moved their family to San Francisco. There they joined Danny’s mother, Diana, who owned a small Italian sandwich shop. Soon afterwards, Melody and Diana changed the sandwich shop into a small Chinese restaurant. The five boys helped in the restaurant when they were young. However, Melody did not want her sons to always work in the family business because she thought it was too hard.
Eventually the boys all graduated from college and went away to work for themselves, but one by one, the boys returned to work in the family business. They opened new restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Even though family members sometimes disagreed with each other, they worked together to make the business successful. Son John explains, “Our mother taught us that to succeed we must have unity, and to have unity we must have peace. Without the strength of the family, there is no business.”
Their expanding business became a large corporation in 2000, with three generations working together. Now their corporation makes more than $ 20 million each year. Although they began with a small restaurant, they had big dreams, and they worked together. Now they are a big success.

There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, a pool of water forms between his feet and the front of his pants are wet.
He thinks his heart is beating fastest because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It’s never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they’ll never speak to him again as long as he lives. The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and says this prayer (祷告), “Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I’m dead meat.” He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.
As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and unbelievably pours the bowl of water in the boy’s lap.
The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, “Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!”
Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of being laughed at, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out.
