Yang Peijie, 71, has been performing Haian flower-drum dances(海安花鼓)for more than fifty years.
The Haian flower-drum dance dates back to more than 400 years. It became popular in the areas of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). 1. 在过去,它被用来展现当地人们的生活。“It’s more gentle compared to flower-drum dances in other places such as in Anhui and Hunan, ” Yang said. Many of its dance steps came from daily life and express positive feelings. For example, fengbailiu (风摆柳) means you have to twist (弯曲) your body like the wind blowing willow trees.
Yang started to learn the dance from old artists in the 1960s. At that time, people could only learn it this way. There were no textbooks. 2. Worrying it might get lost, Yang spent five years studying the history of the dance and recorded its steps in detail. He visited almost all the local artists and wrote a book about it.
3. In recent years, Yang has kept on spreading the dance among all age groups. He set up a team to work on this. The team members have visited about eight schools to teach students. It has been combined (结合)with break-time exercises in many schools. 4. To interest kids, they separate difficult dance steps into several simple ones. Xu Hongxuan, a pupil from Haian Elementary School said, “I have been practicing it for three years. I think it’s more interesting than the radio gymnastic exercises(广播体操). We beat drums to the music in all kinds of ways. Some dance steps are difficult, 5. 但当我掌握了它们之后,我感到开心和自豪。 Now I am a member of the flowerdrum dance club. ”
Besides schools, Yang and the team members also go to communities and parks to teach older people. “I don’t want to see the art fail to be passed down from me, ” Yang said.

Competing in the race is traditional in her family. Last year, her family didn’t win, but they finished the race in nine days.
A competitor and a team of twelve to sixteen dogs begin the race in a city of Alaska. The competitor and his or her team of dogs runs through cold and snowy conditions until they finish the event in Nome, traveling over 1,000 miles.
The race starts on the first Saturday in March, so the Jo’s family spends about eight months preparing. Jo’s main job is to help take care of the sled dogs. And she is proud of her job.
Jo’s dad is a competitor. So he has to stay in good health, and he begins each day with a ten-mile run. He also trains the dogs. He trains at least twenty dogs each year, and they should learn to work together as a team. Then, he will choose the top sixteen of them to take part in the event.
The Smiths begin training the dogs in November. One of the rules of the race is that an injured or unhealthy dog needs to be removed from the team. So Jo’s family make sure that a veterinarian examines all of their dogs every two weeks during the training period to make sure that they stay in good condition and are able to continue to train. The veterinarian also makes sure that each dog has a small microchip(微芯片). For most of the race, no audience will be watching the competitors, so these microchips help race organizers keep track of the dogs.

27、Biting could be worrying
IT makes our fingers look ugly. It’s dirty. It could hurt a lot. But many people just can’t stop doing it: biting their nails.
Up to 45 percent of teenagers in the UK bite their nails, the BBC reported. There are also many famous nail biters, including ex-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and American singer Britney Spears.
There’s nothing wrong with biting nails to keep them tidy. But it could get out of control.
Some people bite a nail not because it’s too long, but because they are driving, reading, feeling stressed out, or just have nothing else to do.
The same could happen to skin picking and hair pulling. A normal behavior could become “pathological”(病态的), as experts say.
In 2013, the American Psychiatric Association labeled (把……列为) nail biting as an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). People with this disorder may wash their hands too many times or have to line up their shoes in a certain way.
These behaviors have a lot in common. OCD is doing something normal and healthy too much, NPR reported.
But nail biting is different from other OCD behaviors in at least one way.
“In OCD, the behavior is really unwanted,” Carol Mathews, a psychiatrist(精神病医生)at the University of California, San Francisco, told NPR. People with OCD don’t want to wash their hands over and over again. There is no fun in it. They just fear that if they don’t do something, something else that’s very bad will happen to them.
But nail biters enjoy it.
“It’s rewarding. When you get the right nail, it feels good,” said Mathews.
Therefore some people argue that most nail biters are not having a problem as serious as a mental (心理的) disorder.
But anyway, it’s still a bad habit. So what can we do to stop it?
Since most people bite nails as a way of relieving (缓解) stress, finding another way to relieve that stress could be useful, suggested Rochelle Torgerson, a doctor at the Mayo Clinic in the US. Try playing with your pen instead.
Besides, nail biters feel the urge (刺激,冲动) to bite if they find a small imperfect part of the nail, said Mathews. So always keep your nails in good shape.
【1】What does the phrase obsessive-compulsive disorder in Paragraph 6 mean?
A. An activity that people enjoy doing it.
B. A kind of behavior that people is really wanted.
C. A way of doing something that people does it normal and healthy.
D. A mental disorder that people are unable to control the thoughts or the activities.
【2】How is nail biting different from other OCD behaviors?
A. People do it over and over again.
B. People do it happily and willingly.
C. It does no harm to people’s health.
D. It is a physical and mental problem.
【3】What do doctors suggest people do to stop nail biting?
A. Pick skin or pull hair instead.
B. Force them to control the urge to bite.
C. Keep them busy and forget about nails.
D. Find some other ways to release their stress.

How can you be sure that you know w【1】 you know? That may sound silly but it’s really a serious question. Have you ever “thought” you knew something but when it came time to write in the exam you discovered that you r【2】 didn’t “know” it, after all.
Strategies (策略) you can use
When that happens, it isn’t because you have a bad memory, it’s because the things you are trying to r【3】 haven’t been properly learned.
Luckily, there are strategies you can use to help you learn difficult things. And scientists say that there is even a part of your brain that can “predict” whether this new knowledge has been completely u【4】.
Judgement of learning
Scientists call this predicting, the “judgement of learning”. It really just means looking over your own shoulder w【5】 you are studying and asking yourself, “Do I really get this?” And if you don’t, it means adjusting your “strategy” until you do.
Here’s one strategy:
Set a short-term goal to learn something.
Study as you normally would.
Answer some test questions to g【6】 some feedback.
Use that feedback to work on your weak points.
In the driver’s seat
Developing the ability to “judge” your own learning needs a lot of p【7】. But it can be a very useful skill. It puts you in the driver’s seat and in charge of your own studies. In effect, it lets you know that you really know what you think you know. You know?
