21、Many foreigners find that one of the most interesting parts of Chinese culture is food. Foods that are normal in China like chicken feet and duck tongue, are often very strange to foreigners. In fact, some of the biggest culture shocks are the kinds of animals that are eaten.
I was once invited to a special meal in China. When I arrived at the meal, I was happy to eat everything that was given to me. I did not want to be rude. I ate a meat dish that tasted rather strange, but I still wolfed(狼吞虎咽地吃)it all down. After the meal to my great surprise, I was told that I had eaten a dog. In European countries, it is a very strange idea to eat a dog. My Chinese friends explained that the dog meat is very useful for warming the body during winter and is often eaten in the north of China.
In England we call dogs “man’s best friend”. It would be against the law to eat a dog in England. In China, it is a big shock when we hear of people eating dogs, or, as I did, end up eating them ourselves.

22、Inventions by Kids
Great inventors such as Leonardo da Vinci, Henry Ford and Hedy Lamarr have impacted people’s lives with their inventions. While their contributions are certainly valuable, other amazing inventions were actually created by children!
The trampoline
Trampolines are great for both fun and exercise, but they are a fairly recent invention. In the 1930s George Nissen was inspired to make a bouncy “net” after seeing a circus performance. He thought it would be more entertaining for performers to continue bouncing instead of landing in a net. So, at the age of 16, he made a “bouncing rig” by stretching thick cloth in a metal frame.
The Popsicle
Cold weather led to the creation of a beloved and delicious invention—the ice pop or Popsicle.
Frank Epperson was just 11 years old when he accidentally created his first Popsicle. He was making himself a soda drink and left his glass outside overnight. When he found it in the morning, it had frozen solid with the stir stick still in the glass. And the first Popsicle was born.
Braille
Even a life-changing written language was created by a kid. Three-year-old Louis Braille experienced a serious eye injury, thus causing him to lose vision in both eyes. Louis struggled to read by moving his fingers across raised letters, which was very difficult. At the age of 12, Louis learned about a silent communication system used by the French military. Messages could be read silently with fingertips. He changed that system and created Braille. It is now used around the world!

24、 Losing focus can be a result of a distracting (让人分心的) environment, not preparing yourself mentally for your work. Luckily, focusing is something we can learn and practice. It may take time to build up your focusing ability, but through repeating focusing skills, you can take back control of your own mind and become more effective.
【1】
First, you can prepare by writing out your to-do list the night before. 【2】 For example, instead of simply writing down “study Spanish," write down something like "remember 20 Spanish words. " This way, when it comes time to actually focus, you won't need to spend any time wondering what you need to do. You'll know the specific task you need to achieve, and you'll be able to get straight to work.
【3】 Poor sleep can make it extremely difficult to achieve anything. Your mind doesn't have the energy it needs for intense (紧张的) periods of focus. If you really have to focus on a project even though you don't sleep well, try taking 10-minute naps in-between tasks so you can start to regain some of your energy.
Right before getting to work, take a few minutes to do some breathing exercises, and look over your to-do list. 【4】 Thinking over all your tasks and imagining completing each one can make getting started much easier.
Perhaps most importantly: turn your phone off and put it in another room or in a drawer somewhere you can't see it. 【5】 Like they always say: “Out of sight, out of mind.”
A.Next, make sure you get enough sleep.
B.Make sure this list is as specific as possible.
C.Prepare yourself mentally right before you start working.
D.Finally, remember that hours of focused work is an- unrealistic goal.

F.Removing it from your space will help a lot when it comes to focusing on the task.
G.It can also be helpful to change your workspace in order to stimulate (刺激) your brain.

26、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
For many years the school system in Finland has been very successful. In the PISA survey, which compares reading, math and science knowledge of 15-year-olds around the world, Finland is not only the top European country but also competes with Asian giants like Shanghai, Singapore and South Korea. But what makes the educational system in this small country so different from others in the western countries?
Until the 1960s, most Finland’s most students left school after six years. In the middle of the 1960s, the Finnish government saw the need to change and modernize their education system if they want to be internationally competitive. Lawmakers made a simple decision: a basic school for all the 7- to 16-year-olds. Compulsory (义务的) education begins at 7. The government makes it possible for all children to attend preschool as well.
Most of Finland’s schools get their money from the government. The people who are in charge of the education system, from teachers to officials are trained teachers, not politicians like in other countries.
Teachers work with their pupils in school as much as possible. When teachers are not with the pupils, they spend a lot of time in schools working on the curriculum (课程) and new projects. Schools in Finland are small, at least for international standards. So teachers know every pupil in their school and try everything to succeed with their pupils. In contrast to other nations, Finland selects its teachers very carefully: only talented teachers go on to a university and receive a master’s degree in education. Finland only takes the best to educate its youth.
All Finnish children, whether they come from the city or the country, whether from a rich or poor family, have the same chances in education. There are not so many differences between the wealthy and the poor, as in America or other Western European countries. Education experts say that there is very little difference between very good and the worst students. Two thirds of Finnish pupils move on to higher education, the highest rate in the European Union.
