21、Age has never been a problem for Thessalonika Arzu-Embry. After all, she’s already got her master’s degree.
The North Chicago-area girl started homeschooling at the age of 4. She began having an influence on others soon after. When she was 6 years old, she was an inspirational speaker at an organization called Tabitha House Community Service, a shelter for people who were forced to leave their homes due to the situations such as earthquakes, flood and other natural disasters.
At the age of 11, she graduated from high school and then earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2013. She completed those classes online as she was traveling for leadership meetings.
She doesn’t stop there, though. The girl plans to focus on aviation psychology(航空心理学) for her further study, a decision inspired by her father who is a pilot. She grew up around airplanes and took flights all the time. Her goal is to use it to determine whether pilots are dealing with problems that could have deadly results once the plane takes off—a topic that has been in the news lately. For her, it’s a mix of two of her interests.
In her free time, Thessalonika enjoys playing tennis, swimming and being active in her youth group. She also has three self-published books, which are on her site. Jump the Education Barrier is written to help students finish college, and In the Future aims to help business owners deal with trends. Her third book The Genius Race has a wider appeal. 22、 I rescued my little Foxy several years ago. I wasn't looking for her, but she just crawled (爬)up onto my lap and went to sleep, so I took her home. She spent the night with her head on my pillow, and I knew she belonged to me.
I was her person. She didn’t really like other dogs or people.. .until I met my wife-to-be. The day Angelika came over to visit for the first time was the last time Foxy was truly my dog. She abandoned me for the love of a tender (温柔的)woman, and who can blame her? I would have done the same. Then Angelika and I got married, and we became a happy family.
The three of us always walk together through our village from the hills to the lake. We get exercise and have fun because Foxy enjoys her walks and strolls (漫步)through the neighborhood like a 10-pound prize pony (小马).
How sweet and lovely, you say, but there is dark side to the little furball! Foxy is now a one-woman dog - she has totally bonded with my wife and won’t go for a walk at all if Angelika is out. She just lies in her bed by the window waiting for her angel to come walk through the door, and I have to tell you, I feel a little rejected. But it is pretty cute.
I understand animal bonding. My therapy dog, Mercy, was with me for over a decade, and we were a total item. In fact, it wasn’t until Mercy died that I decided to remarry. That’s how much unconditional love she gave me.
Now my wife is getting to experience that kind of bond for the first time. Young or old, big or little, when your dog finds you, it’s an amazing experience, and the love you feel just makes your life sweeter.
When you adopt an animal, remember that it’s a lifetime commitment. And if your pet falls for your other half, just enjoy watching the love.

A.Foxy was always friendly to strangers.
B.Foxy introduced Angelika to me by accident.

A.Pets can keep us company and never leave us.
B.Pets can bring us more joy than sorrow in our life.
C.Pets are our lifelong partners and deserve our care.
D.Pets are so cute that they are in great demand nowadays.
23、 Homemade lemonade is an essential taste of summer. But concentrates (浓缩汁)and powders simply won't be enough.
Luckily, great homemade lemonade is as easy as remembering a few numbers—3-1-1-1.3 cups of cold water,1 cup of lemon juice, 1 cup of sugar and 1 more cup of water to make the sugar syrup(糖浆).
When shopping for lemons for lemonade, buy large lemons that feel heavy and are squeezable. I find that half the lemon is rind(外皮) and there is very little juice. For that reason, I always buy a couple extra. If I think I can get 1 cup of juice from 6 lemons. I buy 8.
As soon as I bring them home. I soak the lemons in a solution of white vinegar and water to minimize any molding or rotting.Often, a bag of lemons with one slightly mold(发发霉的)lemon becomes a whole bag of rotten lemons during a night if you don't do this. And you don't have to stop at lemons this is a great way to wash all fruits and vegetables.
Before you juice them, soak the lemons in warm water or microwave them for 10 seconds. The heat relaxes the juice bags and makes it easier to remove the most juice from each lemon. Then, before you cut them in half, roll the lemons on the counter with your palm, using some power. This also helps get the juices flowing.
Once the juice is strained(过滤)of excess pulp and seeds, and the simple syrup is cooled, you are ready to mix your lemonade. This can be done up to 2 days in advance. Also, be careful not to add too much water. The lemonade should be slightly concentrated because the ice in the glass will make the liquid weaker a bit. For that reason, I only add the ice to the glasses.
【1】Why does the author always buy a couple extra when shopping for lemons for lemonade?
A.Because the author loves lemons a lot. B.Because a lemon contains little juice.
C.Because the majority of a lemon is rind D.Because the lemon juice is tough to get.
【2】The speed of mold affecting lemons seems to be ____.
A.uncertain B.slow C.limited D.fast

A.Straining the juice 2 days in advance. B.Making syrup cool as early as possible.
C.Not adding too much water. D.Not adding ice to the.glasses.

A.Homemade lemonade—a unique taste of summer

24、 The Ig Nobel Prize, a spoof (滑稽模仿)of the actual Nobel Prize, exists to award the 10 strangest research projects of the year that bring you fun and make you think. The following are three of them in 2019.
Medicine Prize: Pizza
It's one of the world's most popular foods. According to the Ig Nobel Medicine Prize winner, eating more pizzas can lower the risk of cancer and heart disease — if your pizza is loaded with fruits and veggies. These provide flavonoids (类黄酮)to fight against certain diseases. So, if you're a pizza enthusiast, you now have one more reason to love it!
Economics Prize: Dirty Money
Paper money, the most frequently passed items on the planet, is known to pick up all kinds of bacteria. Which country's currency is the dirtiest? An international team compared seven countries, paper money. The Romanian Leu was the only one to carry all three types of bacteria tested. And the US Dollar was also a finalist. Perhaps this will make cashless payments more popular.
Biology Prize: Cockroach
Cockroaches ((蟑螂)))are well known for their survival abilities, but few folks know they can sense magnetic fields. More surprisingly, an international team found that dead cockroaches have more magnetic properties (磁性)than live ones. That's because magnetic properties decrease when the temperature gets higher. So if you can stand cockroaches, they may be good magnetic sensors (传感器).
