    Fight to the finish

In a match that was called “one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life” by fight commentator (评论员) Joe Rogan, Chinese MMA (mixed martial arts, 综合格斗) fighter Zhang Weili beat Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk on March 7.

Zhang, 30, and Jedrzejczyk, 32, squared off (打斗) in Las Vegas, with Zhang successfully defending her strawweight (草量级) UFC (终极格斗冠军赛) title. The fight was highly anticipated, as both women are known as top fighters among their peers.

Zhang’s training was cut by the novel coronavirus outbreak. It forced her to travel from Beijing to Thailand and then to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Vegas about a week later than planned, according to China Daily. Worse still, Zhang was offended (激怒) by a post on social media in which Jedrzejczyk seemed to make fun of the outbreak. In a mock poster that Jedrzejczyk posted, she wears a gas mask (防毒面具) standing behind Zhang.

Although the post was later deleted, Zhang said that she was fired up to make Jedrzejczyk pay for the tasteless joke in the octagon(八角格斗场).

In the end, Zhang scored a narrow win over Jedrzejczyk, with both ending up in the hospital due to the intensity (激烈程度) of their fight.

“All fighters deserve respect from one another in the octagon. I don' t like people hitting each other with trash talk," said Zhang following her victory. “We go for the championship with our punches (拳头) but we shall never end up being remembered as only talking with violence (暴力)."

“Now the virus situation is not just affecting China, but the whole world. I hope everybody in the world can stand together to fight the virus with a united effort,” she said.

  • 25、   Almost every kid in this country has ever eaten Hershey chocolate. But do you know that the Hershey chocolate factory is more than one hundred years old? And do you know that the father of Hershey Chocolate, Milton Hershey, had many failures in business before he started his famous company?

Milton Hershey was born in 1857 in central Pennsylvania. He stopped attending school when he was 12 years old. Before he became interested in making chocolate, he worked as a printer for a small newspaper at first, but he didn’t like it. Then he decided that printing was not the right job for him.

Then he worked at a candy factory in Lancaster. After working for a few years there, he decided to open his own little candy business near Philadelphia. His first business failed because it was not making money. After that, he went to Denver to learn how to make caramels(焦糖). He took his new skills back to New York and worked selling candies on the street. But his second business also failed.

Finally, Milton Hershey moved back to Pennsylvania where he grew up. He then experimented with all sorts of different candies and chocolate. By 1893 he was selling a million dollars worth of caramel candy each year. Since his chocolate-flavored caramels were the best-selling, he decided to make chocolate himself.

By experimenting, Milton Hershey discovered how to make delicious chocolate. The area where he lived had a large and easy supply of milk and sugar, which helped him succeed in his chocolate business. In 1903, Milton Hershey built a huge chocolate factory and a town to go with it.

Today, the town of Hershey is still the home of the factory that Milton Hershey built. The streetlights are shaped like the candy. The air often smells like chocolate. And if you ever visit it, you can smell delicious chocolate smells just by driving through the town.

The factory is not so hard to find, just travel down Cocoa Avenue until you get to East Chocolate Avenue. Turn right at the traffic lights and just follow your nose.

1Where did Milton Hershey spend his childhood?

    A.In Pennsylvania B.In Lancaster C.In Philadelphia D.In New York

Chicken eggs are just thin shells (壳) made of mineral (矿物), but you may be surprised how strong they are.

    What you need

*Four eggs       *A bowl       *A pen

*Scissors or a knife       *A piece of paper       * Some books

    What to do

① Use the scissors or knife to break a hole in the small end of each egg. Empty out what’s inside into the bowl. Wash and dry the shells.

②Draw a fine line around the widest part of each egg. Break away the shell between the line and the hole slowly.

③ Put shells in a square at the four corners of the piece of paper, with the round end of the egg on top.

④Place books gently onto the four egg shells one after another, and see how many books you can add before the egg shells break down!

    What happened

The strength of an eggshell lies in its shape. It’s like a 3D arch (拱形) or dome, which is one of the strongest shapes. The shape of the eggshell spreads pressure all over the whole egg, rather than at one point. • 27、The day before yesterday, when Peter’s family were having dinner, Father raised an interesting question, “Was there anything in our past that we feel ashamed of, guilty about, or regretted? Maybe we can find ways to say sorry, or take some action to right any wrongdoing.” This seemed like a very private matter, but Peter thought about it carefully the whole night.

Peter remembered an incident from middle school. In his school, there was a worker, Neil Stone, who none of the kids liked. One night, Peter and two of his classmates decided to play a trick on him. They found a can of red paint, and wrote on the school main road in bright red: Neil Stone is a fool! The next day, the whole school saw these words. Within two hours, Neil had Peter and his two classmates in his office. His classmates said that they had done it but Peter didn’t tell the truth. No one ever talked about it.

This morning, Peter went back to his middle school. Neil Stone is still working there. “Sorry, Neil. Do you still remember what happened ten years ago? I want you to know that I did it.” “I knew it!’ Neil laughed. They had a good laugh and a lively discussion. Neil’s closing words were: “Peter, I always felt bad for you because your classmates got it off their mind, and I knew you were carrying it around all these years.
