四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、A wise man was visiting a village with his students. He found a group of family members shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his students and asked: “Why do people shout in anger at each other?”

His students thought for a while, and one of them said: “Because when we lose our calm, we shout.”

“But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can just as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner,” said the wise man.

Students gave some other answers but none were any good.

“When two people are angry at each other, their hearts become distanced,” the wise man explained. “To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the louder they will have to shout to hear each other and cover that great distance.”

The wise man then gave an example: “What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly because their hearts are very close. When they love each other even more, what happens? They don’t need to talk. They only look at each other and that’s all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.”

He looked at his students and said: “So when you argue, do not let your hearts get distant. Do not say words that distance you from others. Otherwise, there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.”

1What did they find when a wise man and his students were visiting a village?

    A. A group of family members were shouting at each other angrily.

    B. A group of family members were playing there.

    C. His students were shouting with a group of people.

    D. A group of people were traveling there.

2One of the students thinks family members shout at each other because.

    A. they are not friends   B. they lose their calm

    C. they don’t like each other   D. they are far from each other

3What will happen when two people are angry with each other according to the wise

    man?

    A. They fight with each other.   B. They are too angry to say a word.

    C. They are far away from each other.   D. Their hearts become distanced.

4What will usually happen to two people at first when they fall in love with each other

    according to the passage?

    A. They talk more.   B. They shout at each other.

    C. They talk softly.   D. They don’t say anything to each other.

5What’s the topic of the passage?

    A. Shouting is bad.   B. Don’t shout.

  • 26、A hunter once lost his way deep inside the forest chasing a deer. As hard as he tried, he could not find a way out of the forest, nor could he find any food to eat. He started feeling so hungry that he could eat an elephant in one go. Disappointed, he lost all his hope. And that was exactly when an apple tree caught his sight. He collected some apples to feed him for the rest of his search. As he ate the first apple, he felt thankful for finding the tree. He thanked the jungle. He could not believe his luck when he ate the first apple, but he was less thankful while eating the second apple and even less thankful after eating the fifth apple. Somehow, with each passing apple, his hunger refused to go away and he became less happy. He couldn’t enjoy his tenth apple at all.

Why? He had already taken for granted the gift of having found an apple tree in the middle of a forest. When he took the tenth apple in his hand, he was still very hungry, but he just did not feel like eating any more.

The tenth apple did not lack flavor (味道), nor was it unable to end the man’s hunger. The only thing lacking was his thanks for finding food in the middle of the forest. So, always be thankful for what you have and you can be more happy.

【1】What happened to the hunter in the forest?

A.He caught a deer on his own.

B.He tried to eat an elephant.

    C.He planted an apple tree.

    B.hungrier than he did before

C.less happy with each apple he ate

    D.more and more powerful

【3】Which of the sentences can best explain the underlined phrase “taken for granted”?

    A.Feeling thankful for unexpected gifts.

B.Not being thankful for what one gets

C.Happiness goes away as time goes on.

D.The more you get, the richer you will be.

【4】What’s the purpose of this passage?

    A.To tell us a story.

    B.To teach us a lesson.

    C.To introduce a hunter.

    D.To explain a phrase.

  • 27、   First AidLearn It by Yourself

When we are injured or suddenly feeling unwell, what we need to do is to treat it in the right way. How can we do that? First aid (急救) is here to help.

First aid is the first steps you can take to care for someone who’s injured. It includes keeping safe, helping someone feel better and staying calm. It also includes getting help, either by telling an adult or calling 120.

Sept 14 is World First Aid Day. It’s time for us to learn about this useful life skill.

    Nosebleed

Ask the person to lean (倾斜) forward and pinch () his/her nose for five to six minutes. Do not move the head backward, as the blood can run into their mouth or even lungs.

    Choking

Stand behind the choking (因噎住而窒息 ) person, put your arms around their waist and lean him or her forward. Make fists with your hands and thrust (猛烈施压) your fists into their stomach. Do this up to five times. You can also do back blows – firmly slap (拍打) their back with your hand. If the object still doesn’t come out, call 120.

    Broken bone

If the bone is broken, keep it still. You can support it with your hands or clothes to stop movement. Then, find an adult or call 120 for further help.

    Burn

Quickly cool the burned area with cold running water. You should do this for at least 10 minutes. Then, call an adult for help or go to the hospital. Do not use ice. It can make the injury even worse.

Before 1870, there were no soccer uniforms. Players wore their own clothes, which made 1hard to know which team they were on. The first soccer uniform had long shorts. Players wore formal shirts 2collars( ) and buttons. The whole uniform was made3heavy cloth, such as wool. Players then put on soccer boots(靴子) that went up over their ankles(脚踝).

Soccer uniforms have changed many times through the years. The shorts are4than before, and the whole uniform is made out of light cloth. This keeps soccer players cool as they run. Instead of boots, soccer players wear soft shoes. Each team now has its own colors. For example, players on the Brazilian soccer team wear bright yellow and green shirts, blue shorts, and white socks. Sports teams need uniforms5are not only practical but also in fashion! So these uniforms will change, too.
