一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、英汉互译阅读下面短文,将文中画线的句子译成汉语或英语。

Why is music an important subject that every child should study?

First of all, music helps us when we are unhappy, and gives us pleasure when we are happy. There are many different kinds of music: slow and fast, serious and relaxing. 1.我们可以听我们喜欢的音乐。And second,   music is fun. People enjoys playing a drum and using their energy.

2.科学家们认为孩子们应该被允许学习音乐。They say music helps children with language learning. Singing simple songs is good for young children. Music improves the ear and we know that children who have studied music can learn foreign languages more easily and pronounce them much better. 3.Students who have learnt to play music are also better at math. This is not surprising,   as music is mathematical (数学的), with notes in order. Playing music with other people also teaches children to work together. People who can play musical instruments always have something they can do at a party. Children who play in school bands enjoy school more and do not drop out of school early.

We need a lot of practice to play an instrument,   and it can be difficult for parents to ask their child to spend hours at the piano or playing the guitar. 4.So music practice should be a daily habit, but do not make the practice too long.

Parents should listen to their child playing and tell him or her that they enjoy it. Practice should also be fun. 5. It’s also a good idea to finish the practice with a piece of music the child likes, and so learning music will be a relaxing part of the day.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Cause and effect is one way to explain things that happen around us. Many things happen because something caused or influenced them to happen. Sometimes it is hard to look at a cause and find out what causes the effect. It may help you to start with the effect and use your reasoning (推理的) skills. Think about all the things you know that could be reasons for the effect you can see.

For example, you may see someone putting on a heavy jacket. This is the effect. To look for a cause, think to yourself, “What would make someone put on a heavy jacket?” Maybe the person is going outside into very cold weather. Maybe the person works in the penguin pen (企鹅圈养地) at Sea World. Maybe the person is going to visit an ice skating rink where the air is kept very cold. All of these things could be a cause for putting on a heavy jacket.

Now, think about a second example. The effect is a boy named Tony has to go to the head teacher’s office. What are the possible causes? Maybe he fought with another student. Maybe he is just being picked up early. Maybe he is being given a prize!

Here is another example for you to think about its cause and effect. Carol,13,was trying to fall asleep when her 8-year-old brother, Doug, came into her room. He looked around a bit,but seemed really out of it. Then Doug went back into the hallway and stood there looking straight up at the hall light for quite a while. Little brothers can be very strange, but this was really much too strange. Carol didn’t know what to do. Just then, Carol’s father appeared and explained that Doug was sleepwalking. What’s the cause and effect, could you tell?

【1】According to the second paragraph, which of the following is an effect?

    A. Someone puts on a heavy jacket.

    B. Someone works in the penguin pen.

    C. Someone will go outside into cold weather.

    D. Someone will go to visit an ice skating rink.

【2】Tony has to go to the head teacher’s office. Which of the following isn’t the possible cause?

    A. He fought with another student.  B. He is going shopping.

    C. He is being picked up early.   D. He is being given a prize.

【3】What was Doug doing when his sister Carol tried to fall asleep?

    A. He was going outside. B. He was reading a story.

    C. He was sleepwalking.   D. He was looking for his dad.

【4】Which of the following is cause and effect?

    A. Tony got up and had a glass of water.

    B. We came home and found him sleeping.

    C. The ball was lost and a window was broken.

    D. Tim was late again and his teacher got angry.

  • 25、In October 2021, an underwater pipe leaked (管道泄漏). Oil poured into the Pacific Ocean. This happened near Huntington Beach, California. Oil covered the water for miles. Some of it washed up to the seaside. Beaches were closed. Unluckily, oil leaks are not uncommon. When they happen, they can cause a lot of problems.

But how do oil leaks happen? We know that oil powers boats, cars, and trucks. It’s also used to make things. Some plastics, paints, and makeups are made with oil. Oil can be found below the ocean floor. Machines drill (钻探) under the ocean. Then the oil is packed out. It’s one way oil can accidentally leak. Oil leaks can also be caused by moving oil with ships.

In the United States, thousands of oil leaks happen each year. It can take years to clean up after a large leak. But even small leaks can cause problems. Oil leaks can have long-lasting influences. They hurt wildlife. Birds get oil on their feathers. They can’t fly. Oil creates toxic fumes (有毒气体). This makes it hard for whales to breathe. Kim Carr lives in the Huntington Beach city. Her community was influenced by the oil leak. After it happened, she said, “We are doing everything in our power to protect the health and safety of our people, our visitors, and our animals.” Larger oil leaks are dangerous for people and wildlife. Leaked oil must be removed from the environment.

D.Because oil can be found below the ocean floor.

  • 27、   Do you ever feel like your thoughts are going around in circles? One minute, you’re thinking about your homework. The next time, you’re thinking about your plans for the weekend.

Is it possible for us to slow our thoughts down or even stop them completely? It depends on your definition(定义)of “thinking”, according to Michael Halassa, a researcher at MIT, US. We go through each day in one of two states(状态)— we either realize that we’re thinking or we don’t.

However, our brains won’t stop thinking completely until we die. The brain never actually stops thinking. Most thoughts are actually in the background(在后面进行)without us noticing them and there’s not really a way to turn these things off. Human brains can process about 11 million pieces of information each second.

You can compare this to how a computer works. Even when you aren’t using your computer while it’s turned on, it is till running “in the background”. Your computer, much like your brain, keeps “thinking”, even if you’re not actively using it.

The phenomenon is considered as “thought-chatter”(思想聊天). It describes the thoughts in and out of our mind at different times during the day.

Some thought-chatter can be enjoyable, such as daydreaming. Albert Einstein came up with his famous theory of relativity(相对论)while daydreaming at work.

But too much thought-chatter can make us feel too upset or worried. How can we solve the unpleasant influence? Thinking deeply and seriously can help us clean up some of this thought-chatter.
