24、 One morning, I was driving my father—in— law to the airport when a plane flew silently over the road like a big bird, about to arrive at the airport.
“It's magic, “my father—in—law said. I looked at him, without knowing what was happening.
He was a doctor who gave speeches at colleges and had visited more than 100 countries. He understood better than me why a plane can fly in the sky. It, really, wasn't magic.
But now, I realize he was at least right in some way.
Though flying might not be magic, it's certainly magical. What it brings to our lives is something found in our dreams.
But too often, we, especially I forget. I read a sentence a few months ago. It said, “You know you're growing up when you no longer want a window seat.”
Too often in recent years, I've asked for a seat near the exit row, forgetting the wonders of traveling fast. But sometimes, when the Wi—Fi's not working or my computer has no power, I remember to look outside.
I think of one time when I was on a family vacation. Minutes after take—off, I started working. But a passenger behind me wouldn't stop talking. “The clouds!”he kept saying, “Look at the clouds!”
I turned around, and saw two men, one who appeared to be in his seventies and the other much younger. The conversation continued for 20 minutes until, not patiently(有耐心地), I raised my eyes from my computer screen and looked out of the window.
The clouds!
He was right. We were flying through big soft balls of cotton(棉花), each in different shapes. They seemed close enough to touch. The afternoon sun provided all kinds of colors, all against a blue sky. It is magic! I put away my computer and appreciated(欣赏) them for the rest of the flight.
I don't remember the work I felt like I had to complete that afternoon. I've never forgotten those clouds.

25、Imagine this. There’s an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, Willpower: Rediscovering Our Greatest Strength, suggests that willpower(意志力) is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term.
Here is a famous experiment in the book The Marshmallow Test. In 1972, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow(棉花软糖), if they waited fifteen minutes, they’d be given a second one (and then they could eat both).
So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, he got in touch with the children, who, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who’d shown strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.
Willpower is like a muscle(肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.
So, if you do daily “self-control exercises”, such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.
Be careful though. Just like any muscle, your “willpower muscle” can get tired. If you have to do lots of things that require willpower, take a break or give yourself a treat. In that way, you’ll build up your willpower again.
And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!

But in 2019, Huawei faced some difficulties. The U.S. government ordered a ban (禁令) on its sales in America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the U. “We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information,” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and president said. “The ban from the U.S. would have little effect on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems.” Ren added.
Facing the ban of the U.S., Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared to a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple fell. So far, Huawei has grown into the world’s largest telecommunication equipment (电信设备) supplier, selling in 170 countries.
