  • 22、In life, everyone once struggles for a dream, whether it’s successful or not. I still clearly remember one day when I was in high school, I saw on a website that China’s Got Talent’s mass-election(海选) for the best singers was going on. I was very excited and decided to go and try out. But it wasn’t as easy as I had thought. When I got there, I saw at least 100 people already waiting in line. My hands started to sweat and shake as my turn got close. I got up and started singing, but I sang so badly that I stopped before I even finished the song. Afterwards I quickly said goodbye to my friends and walked home crying. I thought that I would never be able to show my face in public again.

However, after about a year, that terrible experience became a funny memory. I realized that I didn’t need to care about losing that dream, because I made a new and more realistic one. I’m good at English, as well as other subjects. I made it my goal to get accepted into Columbia University. Columbia is hard to get into, and about 1,300 students from all over the world are accepted every year. Though it is hard to get into, I think my dream will come true someday by working hard!

  • 23、The wonderful medicine

A man was selling medicine at a fair(集市). At first he sold bottles of a cure(药剂)for colds for just a dollar a bottle.

He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing

Aron Ralston is an American man who is1(interest) in mountain climbing. As a mountain  2(climb), Aron is used to3(take) risks. This  is  one  of  the  exciting  things  about  doing dangerous sports. There were many times when Aron almost lost his life because of accidents.4  April 26, 2003, he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing in Utah.

On that day, Aron’s arm was caught under a 360-Kilo rock5fell on him when he was climbing by himself in the mountains. Because he could not free his arm, he stayed there for five days and hoped that someone would find him. But when his water ran out, he knew that he would have to do something to save his own life. He wasn’t ready6(die)that day. So he used his knife to cut7half his  right arm. Then, with his left arm, he bandaged8(he) so that he wouldn’t lose too much blood. After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help.

After losing his arm, he wrote a book called Between a Rock and Hard Place. This means being in a difficult situation that you can’t seem to get out of. In this book, Aron tells of the9(important)of making good decisions, and of being in control of one’s life. His love for mountain climbing is so great that he kept on climbing mountains even after this experience.

Do we have the same spirit as Aron? Let’s think about it before we find ourselves “between a rock and a hard place”, and before we have to make a decision that could mean life or10(die).
