四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Lucy Walker, an 18-year-old girl, German

I won a national award (奖章) for the work I did on a project to build an environmental centre. The centre is made out of 100% green materials, which means all materials were reused or recycled. The centre is somewhere kids can learn how to protect the environment. Then I realized that not everyone would have the chance to visit it. I therefore created an online guide program for kids to learn about the centre in their schools. I translated it into English as well so that it could be available to more people. All this took me two years. And I did it because I have a great love for the outdoors and being in the middle of wildlife. I expected other young people to be able to experience the same feeling as me.

Li Xiao, a college student from Guizhou, China

After seeing an article in the newspaper about an environmental competition, I didn’t have any idea. When my close friend, Lin Tao, invited me to join in the competition, I still had no idea. Then we went to Students’ Union (学生会) and discussed it with some of the students there. They gave us confidence to join in the competition. We all agreed that we should start by doing small things. So we set up a project at the local primary school to encourage kids to plant trees. We taught the kids the importance of taking care of the environment and how trees can help. Each of the pupils was given two young trees: one to take home and plant in their garden, and one to give to a neighbour or a friend. A sign was put on each tree, saying the name of the project. I think the project was a really good way of getting the message across to more people.

【1】Lucy Walker built the environmental centre to ________.

A.call on people to protect the environment

    B.win a national award

C.reuse and recycle the green material

    D.become popular online

A.the online guide program is translated in English and Chinese

B.it took the girl more than 18 years to do research outdoors

C.kids can not only visit the centre but also learn about it online

D.more and more people will become interested in the wildlife

【3】Li Xiao decided to join in the competition after ________.

    A.reading the newspaper

    B.discussing with more students

    C.talking with Lin Tao

    D.giving trees to the pupils

【4】What may be written on the sign of each tree?

    A.Join in the Competition

    B.Kids Also Help

    C.Planted by Li Xiao

    D.This Tree Helps

  • 25、Garbage sorting began on July 1, 2019. However, I , with the other 238 families who live in my building, have been living with a similar system for years. Here, I’d like to talk about our experiences.

In October 2016, the government chose our neighborhood to be part of a pilot(试点的)program for garbage sorting. To help the program run smoothly, we set up a volunteer team. I am one of the volunteers. Several of us, however, doubted whether we could lead people in the building to change their habits.

We began with the usual methods. We posted notices around the neighborhood. We also went door to door, spreading the word.

However, they made plenty of mistakes. For example, many didn’t know wet garbage meant food waste. Instead, they thought it meant that was wet. Some even refused to sort their garbage.

As a result, we volunteers had to do lots of sorting ourselves. At the same time we went around explaining the rules. We kept talking to those who refused to sort their garbage. We let them know we had sorted their garbage for them. It was a matter of time and patience. We believed they would finally change their mind.

Six months later we were successful in changing people’s mind. People in my building had begun sorting in their garbage. Some even joined us to sort garbage that was sorted improperly.

I think face-to-face talks played an important role. Sometimes, these talks led us to conflict(冲突), but they were much more effective(有效的)than notices and flyers(小传单). It was interesting to see what happened. I hope everyone knows garbage sorting is good for them.

【1】When did the writer’s neighborhood start its garbage-sorting program?

    A.In October, 2016.

    C.After six months.

    A.For 238 days.

    B.For about 6 months.

    C.For about 7 months.

    D.For 2016 days.

【3】What does the writer hope for when speaking of the garbage sorting plan of Shanghai?

A.More volunteers will join the writer’s volunteer team.

B.People know wet garbage means food waste.

C.Face-to face talk can play an important role in garbage-sorting plan.

D.Everyone can change garbage sorting habits.

  • 27、Have you ever heard Auld Lang Syne? “Auld Lang Syne” means, in English, “old days gone by”. People in Britain usually sing this song at parties and most famously on New Year’s Eve.

Auld Lang Syne was actually a poem written by Robert Burns in Scottish in 1788. Robert Burns was born in Scotland in 1759 to a poor family on the farm. His family often had nothing to eat. He had little education and taught himself through self-study. Even from an early age, Burns began to show his writing talent.

His first collection of poems came out when he was 27, which earned him four hundred dollars, a large sum of money at that time. When the French Revolution (革命), he supported the revolution and in 1792 he sent four small guns to Paris. He further expressed his support by writing a number of poems. In these poems Burns called on people to fight for a happy life in the future. During the last 9 years of his life, Burns did a great deal of work in collecting and editing traditional Scottish songs. He refused to accept any pay, although he was in bad need of money. He continued the work until he died on 21 July, 1796.

He wrote poems in the tradition of Scottish folk songs. Many Burns’ works are of love and friendship. Much of the effect for Burns’ works of art was gathered from his surroundings—the places he travelled to, the culture and the people he loved at that time. His poems speak straight from the heart of a farmer to express the common feelings of millions of working people in simplest words. One of his world-famous works is A Red, Red (1794).

He is still remembered as Scotland’s national poet, more than 250 years after his death. A national Burns Night is held in Scotland and in other places throughout the world every year on his birthday, 25 January.
