    However, most students don’t seem to like online classes. According to a recent survey, only 33 percent of students would take such classes. Over 1,500 students from 10 cities took the survey.

    Many students said it is hard to focus on studying while taking online classes. This was true for Lian Ruohan, 15, at the Affiliated(附属的) High School of Peking University. “There are no classmates, no real teachers watching me. • 25、Soldier and Scholar

    In difficult times, there are always people who step up and bring hope and confidence to the public.

    Doctor Zhong Nanshan is one of them.

    “Please don’t travel to Wuhan unless it’s absolutely necessary”, Zhong Nanshan, a famous respiratory(呼吸科的)expert, reminded the public when the novel coronavirus first hit Wuhan. But despite the danger, he, 84, rushed on an overnight train to Wuhan to fight against the disease.

    Known as the hero who defeated SARS in 2003, Zhong’s image and messages are flooding(遍布)social media. Many people say they “trust every word of Zhong”. He has given Chinese people confidence in winning the battle.

    A great doctor and honest scholar(学者)

    Growing up in a family of doctors, Zhong lives by a simple motto(信条): Save lives and always be honest. In 2003, when SARS hit China, he volunteered to treat patients and asked his colleagues(同事)to send their most serious cases to him. After months of work, his treatment plan for SARS was adopted(采纳)by China and then the whole world, saving thousands of lives, People’s Daily reported.

    Zhong is also known for being an honest scholar. In 2003, when authorities(官方)said that the SARS virus was under control, he publicly refuted their claim. “I couldn’t help myself. I said it’s not all under control.” Zhong said in a later interview. His honesty won widespread praise from the Chinese public.

    Back to the frontlines

    Seventeen years later, Zhong is once again leading an expert team to study the novel coronavirus. Although this new virus is known to be more dangerous to the elderly, Zhong doesn’t seem worried about his own safety: On Jan 18, he took a high-speed train from Guangzhou to Wuhan. Two days later, he became the first expert to make certain that the new virus can be spread between humans. On January 29, he and his colleagues spent over four hours online checking five patients who were in serious condition.

    The next day, he chose the treatment for those patients. Under his guidance, his team developed a rapid test kit(快速检测试剂盒)for the disease that can show results within 15 minutes.

    As Peoples Daily wrote, “the 84-year-old Zhong Nanshan shows his professionalism as a scholar, courage as a soldier, and a sense of duty as the backbone(脊梁)of our nation.”

    【1】Which of the following information is NOT right about Zhong Nanshan?

    A.He is a famous doctor.

    B.His parents are both workers.

    C.He is brave in the face of difficulties.

    D.He tells truth to the public.

    【2】What does the underlined word “refuted” mean?

    A.Support others’ opinions.

    B.To say that a statement was false.

    C.To laugh at authorities.

    D.To be in the fight against the epidemic.

    【3】What has Zhong done to fight the disease?

    A.He said that the virus could spread between humans.

    B.He treated five severe patients in a day.

    C.He chose some special patients to receive treatment.

    D.The test kit from his team can show results in 15 seconds.

    【4】The aim of the story is to ______.

    A.encourage people to stay at home

    B.state the importance of Zhong’s warming

    C.guide people to be honest and brave

    D.praise Zhong’s courage and spirit

  • 26、Americans spend billions of dollars each year trying to change their weight. Just having an eating health care costs nearly $2,000 per person in the US. Why are so many people trying their best to look “perfect”?

    One reason is that society rewards (奖励) people who are thin and healthy-looking. Researches have shown that a good body shape has something to do with wages (工资), especially for women. That means how much you’re paid every month partly depends on how your boss considers your body shape.

    Besides, women always care more about their weight than men. They always think they’re heavier than they actually are.

    However, trying to live up to the pictures of “perfect” has a dark side: worry, depression (抑郁) and unhealthy ways to lose weight.

    Tom Quinn, a director of external affairs, says people who aren’t satisfied with their body shape might develop an eating disorder. “This is only one of many illnesses that it can lead to.” he says.

    So how can we start to deal with a problem that is deeply rooted in our society? State of Michigan has done something to stop this kind of discrimination (歧视) on body shape. Michigan changed laws—whoever treats others less fairly just because of their body shape would be punished.

    I believe more actions will be taken to protect our rights. Hope people always put their health first and get rid of the misunderstanding of having a “perfect” body shape.

    【1】According to the passage, what can we learn about “trying to have a perfect body shape”?

    A.It has some bad influence on our health.

    B.It’s not very common in the US.

    C.It’s the best way to get higher wages.

    D.It doesn’t cost plenty of money.

    【2】What can we infer from the passage?

    A.A good body shape has nothing to do with men’s wages in the workplace.

    B.Women care more about whether they have a good body shape than men do.

    C.Fewer and fewer people might be treated unfairly for their imperfect body shape.

    D.Most of the people who have a perfect body shape can get another $2,000 every month.

    【3】What’s the purpose of writing this passage?

    A.To show people the importance of having a good body shape.

    B.To tell people the way to get higher wages in their workplace.

    C.To warn bosses not to treat others unfairly for their imperfect body shape.

    D.To make people less worried about body shape and protect themselves.

    【4】Which of the following words can be used to show the structure of the passage?

    A.①High wages; ②Wishes; ③Actions;

    B.①Body shape; ②Suggestions; ③Wishes;

    C.①High wages; ②Problems; ③Suggestions;

    D.①Body shape; ②Problems; ③Actions;
