24、She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old. It was pouring so heavily. We all stood there just inside the door of the Wal-Mart.
Then, we heard the girt asked, “Mom, let’s run through the rain.”
“What?” Mom asked.
“Let’s run through the rain.” She repeated.
“No, honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit,” Mom replied. This young child waited about another minute and repeated, “Mom. let’s run through the rain.”
“We’ll get wet if we do.” Mom said.
“No, we won’t, Mom. That’s not what you said this morning.” The young girl said.
“This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?”
“Don’t you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer (癌症), you said, if God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!”
We all stood silently, No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom said nothing for a while. “Honey, you are right. Let’s run through the rain. If we get wet, maybe we just need washing,” Mom said. Then off they ran.
We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they rushed past the cars and they held their shopping bags over their heads just in case they got wet. When they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.
And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. People can take away material possessions, your money or your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So don’t forget to make time and take the chances to make memories every day! I hope you still take the time to run through the rain.

You’ve all been there. Before the winter holiday, you have lots of plans to improve your life skills or your studies, but when the holiday ends, you 【1】 to carry out any of them even though you have tried. You just avoid starting them for one reason or 【2】. So, what can you do about it?
First, if it takes less than two minutes, then do it now. For example, washing your dishes right away after your meal, taking out the rubbish immediately when the bin is 【3】. It’s surprising that how many things we put 【4】could be done in 2 minutes.
Can all the 【5】 be achieved in less than 2 minutes? Of course not. As for big goals, divide them into small ones. For example, you are a student who can only get 60 in math, 【6】 you have set the goal of reaching the top 3 in your grade. This is crazy! My advice is to divide this big goal into small ones because small goals can help you make progress step by step 【7】 too much stress.
Also, remember you are not fighting 【8】. It’s not easy to keep going with nobody supporting you, and gradually you may lose confidence and give up. You can ask your classmates, your friends and even your teachers and parents for help and support.
Hope the simple rules above can help you stop procrastination and make it easier for you to develop good habits at the same time.

Living and dealing with kids can be a tough (棘手的,难办的) job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be ____ tougher.
If I have learned anything in my last 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree ____ when you get along. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart (疏远). When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not ____ them doesn’t solve anything.
Communication begins with the care about another. Even ____ you just say “Hi,” and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
Have you noticed the meaning of the word “communication” in a dictionary? It would say the exchange of ideas ____ of communication: a letter or message. To maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know ____ you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make ____ feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, you'd ask them ____ to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
This is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home ____ midnight after the fireworks, but she was late getting back. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was ____, they weren’t as mad and let the thing go. Communication was the key factor here.
Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication.
