  • 24、   In the United States, people throw away 500 million plastic straws(吸管) every day. These are enough to circle the Earth twice! Unluckily, they are almost never recycled, because they are too small.

Now, plastic straws are the aim of growing environmental movements. Among them is Be Straw Free. Milo Cress, 23, started the movement at the age of 16. • 25、Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Roy Darby, and this is my show. This is a television show for all the families and I know you’re going to enjoy it.

Let’s start with a story I heard the other day about a very proud pig. This pig lived on a farm with a lot of other animals. And of all the animals on the farm, he thought he was the most important. But it was not enough that he himself thought this way. He had to be sure that the other animals thought so, too. So he went up to one of the chickens and asked, “Who is the most important animal on the farm?” Straight away, the chicken answered, “You’re, Master.” Then he asked one of the farm dogs and he got the same reply.

Next, he asked a cow. When the cow seemed uncertain of the right answer, the pig looked angry and showed his teeth. “Oh, you are, of course, Master Pig,” said the cow. “Of course,” the pig said. “There is no doubt about it.”

At last, the pig asked a big horse, “Who is the most important animal on the farm?” The horse lifted one foot, rolled the pig over, and placed his foot on the pig’s head. “All right,” said the pig, “you don’t have to do that just because you don’t know the answer.”

  • 26、In your spare time, do you help your parents with chores around the house? Can you cook for your family?

In order to stress (强调) the importance of hard-working spirit education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee (中共中央) recently released (发布) a guideline.

The guideline calls for students to respect labor work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.

The government has been trying to stress the importance of hard-working spirit education. But this has been overlooked (忽视) in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard and aren’t interested in doing so.

According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22% of students help with everyday chores around the house.

Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says.

Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.

As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

  • 27、How fit are your teeth? Are you lazy about brushing them? Never fear. An inventor is on the case. An electric toothbrush senses how long and how well you brush, and it lets you track(跟踪) your performance on your phone.

The Kolibree toothbrush was exhibited at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. It senses how it is moved and can send the information to an Android phone or iPhone through a Bluetooth wireless(无线的) connection.

The toothbrush will be able to teach you to brush right(don't forget the insides of the teeth!) and make sure you're brushing long enough. "It's kind of like having a dentist actually watch your brushing on a day-to-day basis," says Thomas Serval, the French inventor(发明家).

The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other applications(设备) on your phone, so developers could, for example, create a game controlled by your toothbrush. You could score points for beating monsters among your teeth. "We try to make it smart and fun," Serval says.

Serval says he got the idea by his experience as a father. He would come home from work and ask his kids if they had brushed their teeth. They said "yes," but Serval would find their toothbrush heads dry. He decided he needed a brush that really told him how well his children brushed.

The company says the Kolibree will go on sale this summer, from $99 to $199, and the U.S. is the first target market.

1All the following statements are wrong EXCEPT_________.

    A. It can sense how users brush their teeth.   B. It can track users' school performance.

    C. It can check users' fear of seeing a dentist.   D. It can help users find their phones.

2What can we learn from Serval's words in Paragraph 3?

    A. You will find it enjoyable to see a dentist.

    B. You should see your dentist on a day-to-day basis.

    C. You can brush with the Kolibree as if guided by a dentist.

    D. You'd like a dentist to watch you brush your teeth every day.

    3What can we infer(推断)about Serval's children?

    A. They were unwilling to brush their teeth.

    B. They often failed to clean their toothbrushes.

    C. They preferred to use a toothbrush with a dry head.

    D. They liked brushing their teeth after Serval came home.
