四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   For children this year, things are a little different. They’ll still feel excited to be in a new environment and wear a special uniform. But it might also be a little scary to sit at a desk surrounded (围绕) by plastic dividers for six-year-olds.

Those plastic dividers on desks are used to protect children during the COVID-19 pandemic (疫情). However, two teachers from Florida have come up with a way to help children feel less nervous and more pleased.

First-grade teachers Patricia Dovi and Kim-Martin of St. Barnabas Episcopal School in Florida have turned students’ desks into the windshields (挡风玻璃) and windows of Jeeps. “Anything that we can do to get them excited is going to be really important in this long school year,” Dovi said.

Dovi and Martin paid for their design (设计). Changing the desks took about a week to complete. Wasn’t all that work worth it? Family and friends of these two helped turn the desks into colorful Jeeps. Martin said their goal was to create a space for students to feel comfortable while following health and safety rules.

“It’s going to be more fun to say, ‘Hey, purple Jeep, you’re getting out of your lane (车道),’” Martin joked. “Dovi and I think it’ll certainly be a smart way to cheer up the kids and protect them as well.”
