二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、It was one of those days when there was way too much to do. I had fallen behind in most of my household chores.

After breakfast, I sat down at the computer to write an article. My youngest daughter, Julia, walked toward me. "But, Mommy, I thought we were going to do something fun today," she said. "Since it's our day off from school." "I know it's your day off, but it's not Mommy's day off," I explained.

"Can you play a game with me?" she begged. "Like Candy Land? Or beauty shop?" I sighed. I really didn't have time to play. I desperately needed to get some work done. But then I had an idea. "Can we play beauty shop while I work?" So I got my article done, and my toenails(脚趾甲) painted at the same time. My oldest, Austin, volunteered to fix lunch so I could keep working. Shortly after lunch, we went to the grocery store and I got what I needed. Back at home, the kids decided to play "grocery store". For the remainder of the afternoon, I cleaned house, folded laundry, and started dinner. The kids continued with their game until my husband, Eric, walked through the door.

He saw me and smiled. "So how was the kids' big day off today?" I began to explain that we hadn't done anything special. But my two middle kids, Jordan and Lea interrupted me. They told their dad, "We had such a special day today, Dad! It was a blast!" I looked at my children's faces. They were lit up with excitement.

I nodded, realizing how right he was. Happiness is far more about our attitude than our circumstances. I hugged my kids and thanked them for reminding me to look for happiness in the little things. Julia smiled and said, "And the little things that make you the happiest are us, right, Mommy?" Wow, my kids sure are smart.

【1】How did Julia probably feel after hearing what her mother said in Paragraph 2?

    A.A little down.

    B.A little puzzled.

    C.Quite surprised.

    D.Quite content.

【2】Why did the author advise to play beauty shop?

    A.She decided to relax herself.

B.She meant to finish her work.

C.She liked the game very much.

D.She wanted to keep her promise.

【3】What does the underlined sentence “It was a blast!” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

    A.It was different.

    B.It was ordinary.

    C.It was successful.

    D.It was amazing.

【4】What message does the author intend to convey in this text?

A.Family life brings us greatest joy.

B.Life is made up of small pleasures.

C.Happiness can be gained in little things.

D.Little things can make a great difference.

  • 22、   Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation?

UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much more complex than most of us ever imagined.

Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their co-operation and support, passing around necessary nutrition “depending on who needs it”.

Nitrogen () and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi (真菌) networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons (神经元) in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it affects all.

Simard talks about “mother trees”, usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down “mother trees” with no awareness of these highly complex “tree societies” or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances of survival for the entire forest.

“We didn’t take any notice of it,” Simard says sadly. “Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance.” If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.

1What can we learn from Professor Simard’s words in paragraph 3?

A.Trees depend on each other. B.Trees protect their own wealth.

C.Trees compete for survival. D.Trees provide support for dying trees.

2Why are “Mother trees” extremely important?

A.Because they know more about the complex “tree societies”.

B.Because they seem more likely to be cut down by humans.

C.Because they look the largest in size in the forest.

D.Because they pass on nutrition to young trees.

3What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to?

A.How young trees survive. B.How “tree societies” work.

C.How forestry industry develops. D.How trees grow old.

4What would be the best title for the passage?

    A.Old Trees Communicate Like Humans.

B.Young Trees Are in Need of Protection.

C.Trees Are More Fantastic Than You Think.

    D.Trees Contribute to Our Society.

  • 23、After the age of 25, the number of friendships we maintain begins to fall. 【1】

    Learn to identify opportunities.

“We let chances to make friends pass us by every day,” says Kate Leaver in her book The Friendship Cure.     【2】“Instead of forcing a little small talk with your kind neighbours,” she says, “ask them in for a cuppa and get to know them. ”

    【3】

Joining a group, club or class is an effective way to meet people. “Teaming up for a shared activity, project or goal is an experience that can promote bonding and closer connections,” says therapist Miriam Kirmayer. Pursue a challenge or skill you are interested in, because then you will have a good time and feel more at ease in starting a conversation.

    Allow yourself to be vulnerable(脆弱的).

【4】 What if your offers are rejected? Leaver and Kirmayer say that a degree of vulnerability is needed in trying to start friendships. Keeping to yourself isn’t going to help you. Sharing recommendations or letting others in on plans, says Kirmayer, is a simple way to share, which will help build closeness and trust.

Don't put too much pressure on it.

As we age, our friendships change. According to a 2016 study, we hit our peak number of friendships at the age of 25. 【5】 clinical psychologist Linda Blair advises not putting too much pressure on any new connections and not expecting too much from one person.

    A.Follow your interests.

    B.Ask questions and listen.

C.It can be scary to try to make friends.

D.When people are trying to make friends as an adult.

E.As you are calculating your number of friendships.

F.But forming new, lasting connections can be simple.

G.She advises having the courage to take small steps when opportunities arise.

  • 24、How much television do you watch? Did you really give an honest answer? A recent study shows that people aren’t totally truthful about their television-watching habits.

The study in question was conducted at Ball State University in the US. Researchers there wanted to find out how much television people view according to their age. The study was paid for by a council associated with the Nielsen Company, which determines television ratings. The conclusions were that people spend more than 8 hours a day looking at a screen. This included cell phones and computers, but the majority were television screens.

There are three interesting things about this study. The first is that people are exposed to more than one hour of advertisements per day. The second is that even with access to DVDs and internet videos, television is still the most popular media source. The third is that the amount of screen-watching people do is relatively the same from the ages of 18-65.

So, if everyone is watching television, why lie about it? Well, if someone admits they watch television for five or six hours, they could be considered a couch potato. Michael Phillips, one of the study’s main researchers, says, “There’s a social stigma for people who watch too much television. Sometimes, however, watching the latest reality show or the funniest sitcom gives co-workers and friends fun things to talk about.”

Even if you do watch a lot of television, perhaps we can use this study as a reason to be honest with ourselves about how much time we spend in front of the television. I mean, after all, everyone else is doing it...

1Why do people lie about how much TV they watch?

    A. Because the show they watched is not the latest.

    B. Because they may be laughed at by co-workers or friends.

    C. Because they don’t want others to know what they watched.

    D. Because there’s something negative attached to watching too much TV.

2Which of the following is true according to the study?

    A. The most popular media source is the internet.

    B. 18-year-olds watch more TV than someone in their 60s.

    C. People are exposed to over than an hour of advertisements a day.

    D. Researchers say that people watch over 8 eight hours of television a week.

3How could people feel to be considered as a couch potato?

    A. comfortable   B. ashamed

    C. excited   D. satisfied

4What idea does the author mainly want to express with the article?

    A. What the effects of watching TV are.

    B. How much television we should watch every day.

    C. There are some interesting facts of watching TV.

    D. People lie about how much television they watch.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段话,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As a young boy, I sometimes traveled the country roads with my dad. He was a rural mail carrier and on Saturdays he would ask me to go with him. Driving through the countryside was always an adventure: There were animals to see, people to visit, and chocolate cookies if you knew where to stop, and Dad did.

In the spring, Dad delivered boxes full of baby chickens, and when I was a boy it was such fun to stick your fingers through one of the holes of the boxes and let the baby birds peck (啄) on your fingers.

On Dad’s final day of work, it took him well into the evening to complete his rounds because at least one member from each fatuity was waiting at their mailbox to appreciate him for his friendship and his years of service. “Two hundred and nineteen mailboxes on my route,” he used to say, and a story at every one. One lady had no mailbox, so Dad took the mail in to her every day because she was nearly blind. He once lectured me that to bring everyone plain pleasure is his greatest pleasure, which has clung to me so far.

Mailboxes were sometimes used for things other than mail. On cold days Dad might find one of his customers waiting for him with a cup of hot chocolate. A young girl wrote letters but had no stamps, so she left a few buttons on the envelope in the mailbox; Dad paid for the stamps.

With a heavy heart, I traveled back to my hometown on the sad occasion of Dad’s death, and the mailboxes along the way reminded me of some of his stories. I thought I knew them all, but that wasn’t the case.

As I drove home, I noticed two lamp poles, one on each side of the street. When my dad was around, those poles supported wooden boxes about four feet off the ground. One box was painted green, and the other was red, and each had a long narrow hole at the top with white lettering: Santa Claus, NORTH POLE. For years children had dropped letters to Santa through those holes. I was among the kids whose letters were always answered in time.

I made a turn at the corner and drove past the post office and across the railroad tracks to our house. Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table when I heard footsteps. There, at the door, stood Frank Townsend, Dad’s postmaster and great friend for many years. Threads of silver ran through his beard and the hair. Obviously, time and sorrow for the past days ploughed deep wrinkles on his brow. Sitting down at the table, he began to tell old stories.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150词左右;

    2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

At one point Frank looked at me with tears in his eyes as if recalling something.
