21、 Love, joy, and the warm feeling of pulling together to get through tough times donft cost a thing. But gifts do cost money. So, what’s a poor family to do?
When Christmas season rolled around again, I told my mother that the only thing I wanted was a pogo stick (弹簧单高跷). However, my mother told me they were too expensive and that we simply couldn’t afford one.
On a Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks before Christmas, my mom and dad told me we needed to go to Sears to pay our credit card bill. While my mother and I were at the counter paying the bill, my dad said, “I’ll be right back— I need to see something in the tool department.” A little later, my dad came back with a long box. I remember wondering at that very moment if it was a pogo stick in that box.
When we arrived back at home, my dad put the box in the garage. While my parents were busy with their chores, I quietly walked out to the garage and found the box. I was so excited and I knew that as soon as I opened that magical box my bright, shiny pogo stick would appear. No such luck! Inside the box was a silly old broom. And so Christmas morning was both great and disappointing. I got some nice gifts but I didn’t get the present that I really wanted.
After all the wrapping paper was cleaned up my dad said he needed to tend to something in the garage. When he came back in, he was carrying a beautiful pogo stick. I couldn’t believe it! My parents probably got quite a laugh from the trick they played on me.
Although we didn’t have much money, my parents gave me the most important gift of all: lots of love. My dad worked hard to provide for us and my mother knew how to stretch a dollar. That was over 60 years ago and I still think about those wonderful Christmas memories every year during the holiday season. My parents were the best and I will never forget all the joy they brought into my life.

23、Parents do not owe (欠) their children a college education, if they can afford it, they can certainly send them to a good university. But they needn’t feel guilty if they can’t. When children grow up and want to get married, their parents do not owe them an apartment. They do not have the duty to look after their grandchildren, either. If they want to do it, it must be considered a favor, not an obligation.
Do parents owe their children anything? Yes, they owe them a great deal.
One of their obligations is to give their children a sense of personal worth. Children who are always made to feel stupid and unworthy, constantly compared with brighter brothers, sisters, or cousins will become so unsure, so afraid of failing that they won’t try at all. Of course, they should be properly corrected when they do wrong, but it’s often better to let children learn from their mistakes by themselves in time. All their parents should do is to trust them, respect them, understand them and give them chances to try and fail. They must learn to stand failure. When criticisms (批评) are really needed, they should be balanced with a smile and a kiss. That is the way children learn.
Parents owe their children a set of solid values around which to build their lives. This means teaching them to respect the rights and opinions of others. Also, it means being respectful to elders, to teachers, and to the law. The best way to teach such values is by deed. A child who is lied to will lie. A child who sees no laughter and no love in the home will have difficulty laughing and loving.
No child asks to be born. If you bring a life into the world, you owe the child something.

A.Blame them and tell them not to do that again.

【4】What does the author mainly talk about in this passage?

24、 As educators across the globe look to improve students outcomes, a new trend is beginning to take root. Equipped with the knowledge that indoor plants improve general health and well-being, living green walls, like those created by GSky Plant Systems,Inc., are bringing life to educational spaces.
This fall, to help enrich student learning, GSky completed the installation(安装) of a Versa Wall for the new Biomedical Sciences and Engineering(BSE) facility at Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland. “The living wall is meant to almost appear as an extension of the east courtyard exterior(外面的) environment flowing into the building,”said Christopher Case, Project Engineer for Gilbane Building Company.
As the educational model continues its shift toward a science, technology, engineering, art and math(STEAM) curriculum, Educators are looking for more hands-on learning opportunities. Green walls provide teachers with a new way to put STEAM principles into the curriculum.
Known as project-based learning, this method allows instructors to develop educational opportunities for students to interact with a green wall. Michael McCullough, Michael Martin and Mollika Sajady, in their article, “Implementing(实施) Green Walls in school,”explain the benefits of project-based learning:“The project-based learning allows students to construct meaning and knowledge based on direct experience, interacting with their environment.” In turn, students are encouraged to use critical thinking to develop ways to maintain a green wall, once again, bring them back to the natural world, in spite of being indoors.
The benefits of green walls don't end at better test scores and increased learning opportunities. Because stress levels often run high in schools, green walls naturally help reduce that stress and anxiety. Plus, the addition of greenery in schools decreases carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, leading to a reduction in headaches, dizziness, and tiredness,---all of which contribute to students’ ability to focus.
To increase productivity while beautifying a space, Georgetown University also chose a GSky Versa Wall for a student center in one of their residence halls, New South. The 828- square- foot vertical garden is filled with 5000 plants, allowing students to breathe easy.
So, no matter the location or learning style, GSky’s green walls are proving to be a critical element in creating a positive educational experience for students, big and small.
【1】What did Christopher say about the living wall?
A.It extends as far as the east countryyard.
B.It appears as if it's constantly moving.
C.It beautifies the country yard exterior environment.
D.It brings the outdoor environment into the building.
【2】What does “Implementing Green Walls in School” show about green walls?
A.They are beneficial to the students’ studies.
B.They still need further improving.
C.They might replace some STEAM courses.
D.They work well in improving general health.
【3】Why is Georgetown University mentioned in Paragraph 6?
A.To complain about the wrong location of GSky's green walls.
B.To display possible learning opportunities at universities.

【4】What is the test mainly about?

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was thirty years ago, and I was twenty years old as a new teacher in an elementary school in Toronto, Canada. My class was made up of thirty-eight kids, one of them named Mike. Mike was a street kid. He never knew his parents and lived with an uncaring grandmother. His clothing was in need of repair. He was ten years old and looked in bad health. Like most new, young teachers, I was full of enthusiasm and wanted to make a difference. I decided to reach out to help the kid in need.
So it was that early in September that my special “foster father(养父)” relationship with Mike began with the permission of his grandmother. I became the only parent figure he ever had. Each day, I’d take him for meals. I showed him how to repair clothes. I taught him a lot of new skills like using a computer, taking photos and knowing about nature. Mike would then help me teach the rest of the class these skills. We all had a lot of fun, and a kind of un-spoken trust began to build up between us. Surprisingly, he appeared eager to join in this new father-son relationship.
Early in our special relationship, Mike told me his dream. Most of the kids in the class wanted to be doctors, musicians, teachers or some such things, but not Mike. “I want to be a gangster(土匪), Mr. Kowalchuk!” he said. This was no joke—this was his wish, and he was most serious about it.
I believe all children have a gift. Everyone has the same chance to be the best person they can be. I realized this boy was smart, and that with a little love, attention, understanding, guidance and encouragement, he could probably achieve whatever he put his mind to. I explained to him that a good gangster had to read a large number of books on law in the law library and know criminal law(刑法) well like an excellent lawyer(律师). His young mind was eager and interested.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
If he wanted to be a “gangster”, I would do something to help him.
