二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms (节气). The Spring Equinox (春分), as the fourth term of the year, starts on March 20 and ends on April 3 this year. Here are things you may not know about the Spring Equinox.

    Swallows flying north

The ancient Chinese people divided the fifteen days of the Spring Equinox into three “hou’s”, or five-day parts. As the old saying goes, swallows fly back to the North in the first hou; thunder cracks the sky in the second hou; lightning occurs frequently in the third hou. It vividly reveals the climate feature during the Spring Equinox.

    Egg-standing games

Standing an egg upright is a popular game across the country during the Spring Equinox. It is an old custom that dates back to 4,000 years ago. It is believed that if someone can make the egg stand, he will have good luck in the future.

    Flying kites

The Spring Equinox is a good time to fly kites. In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. To pray for health, they wrote their medical issues on a paper kite. When the kite was in the air, people would cut off the string to let the paper kite float away, symbolizing the flying away of diseases.

    Eating spring vegetables

Eating spring vegetables during the Spring Equinox is a commonly practiced custom in many regions of China. Spring vegetables refer to seasonal vegetables that differ from place to place. The ancient teachings in the Chinese classic, Huangdi Neijing, suggest that people eat seasonal foods to help preserve health and bring good luck.

【1】Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the Spring Equinox?

    A.Time division.

    B.Climate feature.

    C.Customary activities.

【2】What would ancient Chinese people do to pray for health?

    A.Stand eggs.

    B.Fly kites.

    C.Eat spring vegetables.

    D.Observe the immigration of birds.

【3】Who are the target readers of the text?

  • 27、   Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic(全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.

Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.

Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so pleased in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.

Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.

This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured(捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized(使……永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.

Perhaps we all live in each others’ spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.

That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.

1What happened when the author was about to take a photo?

A.A woman blocked her view. B.Her camera stopped working.

C.Someone asked her to leave. D.A friend approached from behind.

2According to the author, the woman was probably_______.

    A.losing her patience B.enjoying herself

C.waiting for the sunset D.thinking about her past

3In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?

A.The rich color of the landscape. B.The perfect positioning of the camera.

C.The soft sunlight that summer day. D.The woman’s existence in the photo.

  • 28、   Whenever something looks interesting or beautiful, there’s a natural impulse(冲动) to want to own and preserve it — which means, in this day and age, that we’re likely to reach for our phones to take a picture.

Though this would seem to be an ideal solution, there are two big problems associated with taking pictures. Firstly, we’re likely to be so busy taking the pictures that we forget to look at the world whose beauty and interest drove us to take a photograph in the first place. And secondly, because we feel the pictures are safely stored on our phones, we never get around to looking at them, so sure are we that we’ll get around to it one day.

These problems were noticed right at the beginning of the history of photography, when the average camera was the size of a grandfather clock. The first person to notice them was the English art critic, John Ruskin. He was a traveler who realized that most tourists make a boring job of noticing or remembering the beautiful things they see. He argued that humans have a natural tendency to respond to beauty and wish to have it, but that there are better and worse expressions of this desire. At worst, we get into buying souvenirs or taking photographs. But, in Ruskin’s eyes, there’s one thing we should do and that is attempt to draw the interesting things we see, no matter whether we have any talent for doing so.

Ruskin was very upset by how seldom people notice details. He strongly disliked the travelers who prided themselves on covering Europe in a week by train. “If he be truly a man, no harm to go slow; for his glory is not at all in going, but in being.”

1People are eager to take pictures at seeing something beautiful because ___________.

    A. it’s human’s born desire of owning B. it’s convenient to do so with a mobile phone

    C. they are used to hurrying for everything D. they cannot wait to share it with friends

2When taking pictures, people may ___________.

    A. find a good way to store good memories in their minds

    B. feel it hard to learn the skills of taking good photos

    C. ignore appreciating something attractive on the spot

    D. have chances to meet the challenge of new technology

3According to the last paragraphtravelling people are usually proud of ___________.

    A. the long distance that they have covered

    B. the happy hours that they have gone through

    C. the advanced transport tool that they have taken

    D. the great convenience that they have been offered

4We can conclude that Rustin attached importance to ___________.

    A. travelling around the world B. taking beautiful photos with a camera

    C. taking photos instead of painting pictures D. admiring the world’s beauty attentively

  • 29、   One day, I was in class, when all of a sudden my heart started racing. I broke out into a sweat, feeling hot and cold all over. My chest hurt, I was dizzy, and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I jerked up from my desk and ran from the room, terrified. I didn’t care what the teacher thought, or that the eyes of the entire class were on me. I just had to get out of there.

I ran to the water fountain and drank some water. For several minutes, I just stood there holding on to the fountain. What was happening? Was I having a heart attack? Slowly, the lightheadedness went away. My heart stopped racing. I still had no idea what had happened.

And then, an hour later, once again it did the pounding heart, the dizziness, the feeling that I was dying. I burst into tears and ran for the hallway again. My teacher ran after me asking what was wrong. Panicking, I managed to choke out, “I need an ambulance, please.”

To my surprise, my teacher didn’t grab her phone for help. Instead, she put her hand on my arm and told me to slow down. “Breathe,” she said. “You’re going to be okay. You just need to calm down.”

Finally, my teacher explained that she was pretty sure I was having a panic attack. (They are also called anxiety attacks.) She knew, she said, because the same thing had happened to her when she was my age. She told me how she’d felt, and it was almost exactly how I was feeling now. She also explained that panic attacks are caused by anxiety.

My teacher talked to my parents, and they found me a counselor to deal with my anxiety. I’d been going through a tough time that year. My best friend had moved to a new school, and I wasn’t sure how to fit in with the girls in my class. I’d never told anyone, though—I just kept it to myself. My counselor helped me understand that not dealing with my feelings can lead to panic attacks, and that I need to talk to someone when my life is stressful. They all helped me sort things out.

By sharing my story, I want other girls my age to know that you’re not as alone as you feel, and that talking about it really does help.

1What’s wrong with the author at the beginning of the story?

    A.She caught a cold. B.She couldn’t breathe.

C.She had a heart attack. D.She suffered from a terrible anxiety.

2What may cause a panic attack?

A.Writing to a friend to tell him you are worried about the exam.

B.Calling your mom and tell her you are in a bad mood.

C.Keeping the quarrel between you and your classmate to yourself.

D.Visiting your teacher to tell her you could not catch her in class.

3The author shared her story to ________.

A.inform people of an anxiety attack

B.give advice on how to overcome an anxiety disorder

C.describe her feelings when suffering from a panic attack

D.help other girls who are going through what she went through

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

The view that the spirit of adventure no longer has any scope for its enterprise seems, at first glance, depressingly true. The highest mountains have been scaled; the deepest seas plumbed. Maps today no longer contain huge blanks marked "Unknown Territory", nor do they make random guesses at the shapes of 1 land-masses. All major journeys of exploration to 2 the true shape and nature of the globe have been made in the past. It was left to us to fill in the details with 3 which once would have been considered impossible. The gaps have been 4. What next?

The obvious answer, of course, is that man is now looking upwards into space. Discoveries are being made at such a tremendous rate that even authors of science-fiction are finding it difficult to keep up with them and have to tax their imagination to invent bigger and better space-craft. Satellites sending signals as they swing round our globe have become 5.

Astronauts have successfully landed on the moon and its entire surface has been photographed. The information that satellites may provide fueling stations for manned rockets no longer strikes us as preposterous. If thirty years ago, a scientist has urged that we send messages into outer space in the hope of receiving an answer, he would have been regarded as either irresponsible or mad. Now, anything seems 6.

From dreams like these, we return to earth with a bump. Trips into space are all very well, but they are not for us; we must 7 ourselves with our own, much-traveled world. The earth itself is the training-ground for adventurous spirits, for "adventure" need not mean the seeking out of something new. A person can be called adventurous when he finds out something for himself, and it does not matter how many times the discovery has been made before. No one would say that men who set out now to cross the forbidding Antarctic are less enterprising than their predecessors who tried to do the same thing. The little boy who climbs the small hill that 8 his town, or even he who tries to climbs and fails, has precisely the same spirit that led Hillary to climb Everest. For the bold spirit and inquiring mind, there are inexhaustible possibilities. So long as there are people willing to 9 places that are well-known, there will be those who will, one day, set foot on remote and 10 shores.
