24、The Green Magic Tree House, in India, is the perfect hotel for anybody who likes adventure(冒险). Guests must drive for miles through the jungle to find it in the middle of tea and coffeeplantation(种植园).
There are two tree houses to choose from, one 30 meters and the other 35 meters above the ground. Both houses have two floors. The bedrooms are above the living area and there are bathrooms and showers. You can get up to rooms and move between floors byusing ladders(梯子). You can go from one tree house to the other on a rope bridge. The houses sometimes move about in the wind but the views are fantastic.
Guests can enjoy moving through the jungle, climbing in the mountains, and watching wildlife. There are many unusual plants, birds, and insects in the area.
The Ice Hotel is in Jukkasjarvi, a village in Sweden 200 kilometers north of the Arctic(北极)Circle. Every winter, a team of architects(建筑师), designers and snow builders build the hotel. This year there are 80 rooms.
Everything is made of ice. The walls, the floors, the ceilings(顶棚), and even the furniture are made of ice. The beds are made of ice, too, but guests sleep on warm deer skins. Outside it can be -37℃, so inside it feels quite comfortable. The hotel has a bar, where guests can drink vodka(伏特加) from glasses made of ice. It's very popular — because there isn't much else to do.
To spend a night at Jules Underwater Lodge in Florida, guests need to scuba dive (潜水) seven meters under the sea. They enter a small house through a door at the bottom of the building. Inside, the kitchen is stored with food and there is a fridge and a microwave oven(微波炉). There is a hot shower and comfortable beds and lots of books, DVDs and video games. Most guests, however, spend their time at one of the large windows watching different fishes swimming by.

25、Benjamin Banneker was born a few months before another great American—George Washington. Benjamin was black, but he was not a slave (奴隶). He and his mother and his grandmother were free. Benjamin’s grandmother came from England. In America she got a job and worked for many years to pay for her boat trip across the ocean. After working many years, she saved enough money to buy a farm. Benjamin lived with her for a while. She taught him to read, write and do arithmetic (算术).
Benjamin’s neighbours knew that he was clever. They were not surprised when he built a large wooden clock. He made each piece after studying a small pocket watch. The clock made him famous, for it was one of the first clocks built in America. People from other places began to send hard problems of all kinds to Benjamin to settle.
Thomas Jefferson heard of Benjamin Banneker’s ability to settle hard problems. He asked Banneker to help build the city that was to be the capital of the United States—Washington, D.C. Banneker worked hard on the plans for the city. He marked where the streets and buildings—the Capitol (美国国会大厦), the White House, and many other places should be built.
Later, L’ Enfant, the Frenchman who had designed the new city, had a quarrel, and went back to France in anger. He took all of the plans away. The workmen couldn’t build without any plans to follow.
For a while it seemed that the plans for the capital might have to be changed, but Benjamin Banneker remembered the plans he had helped draw. He drew each again as he had built each piece of his clock.

26、 Prana was a beautiful dog, whose name means “breath of life”. Although he died several years ago, I can still remember the days we spent together and what he has taught me about love.
I have two apple trees in the garden. Prana loved apples. When he went outside, he’d catch an apple and take it into the house to eat later. The apples had been on the ground and were often dirty so I wasn’t always happy that Prana had brought them into the house.
It was an autumn day in America, but it was very cold. A big snow fell and we had not done anything for its coming. On that special day, Prana went outside and I watched him through the window. I noticed that he was madly digging holes and bringing the apples to the ground so they could be seen above the snow. I did not know why he was doing this. He seemed to want to do something special.
When I called him back, he had his usual one apple in his mouth. About five minutes later, I looked outside. The garden was completely covered with birds. Prana had dug up all those apples for his bird friends to eat. He knew that they wouldn’t have stored enough food for the coming winter!

27、阅读下面四篇材料,然后从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
With rising food prices, growing population and environmental problems, many people are worrying about how we will feed ourselves in the future. Don’t worry. Scientists are trying to find some answers.
Some scientists believe insects will become a staple of our diet. Insects provide as many nutrients as ordinary meat and a great source of protein(蛋白质) , they also cost less to raise than cows and use less water. About 1,400 species are suitable as food for humans. Many people have already eaten insects as a part of their diet. Locusts are popular in Africa, wasps are a dish in Japan, and crickets are eaten in Thailand. The Dutch government is preparing for insect farms and has invested one million euros into research.
In the future, land and fresh water will be in short supply. It is possible that people need to find a reliable food source in the ocean. Scientists have already found one at the bottom of the food chain---seaweed. It has long been a staple in Asia, and countries including Japan have huge seaweed farms. Such farms can easily work in other countries and be very successful. The great thing about seaweed is that it grows at an amazing rate. It’s the fastest growing plant on earth.
Scientists are also working in the lab to solve the problem of food shortage. A few years ago, European scientists successfully produced lab meat, also known as cultured meat. They grew muscle tissue using stem cells(干细胞)taken from cows. The experiment was funded by NASA to see if lab meat was a food astronauts could eat in space.
In 20 years’ time , lab meat is likely to become a popular dish of our diet. According to research, growing meat in a lab rather than slaughtering(屠宰) animals can greatly reduce greenhouse gases, along with energy and water use. People can also reduce fat from the meat and add nutrients.

②They are at the bottom of the food chain.
③People can spend less money in raising insects.

【4】Why did NASA fund the experiment of creating lab meat?
A. Because they wanted to make extra money.
B. Because astronauts didn’t like the taste of beef and pork.
C. Because they wanted to solve the problem of food shortage.
D. Because they wanted to see if lab meat was a suitable food for astronauts.
