六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   How green are you? Do you care about protecting the environment and saving energy? We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you. Remember these three words: Reduce, reuse and recycle.

    REDUCE

Reduce means “use less.” Don’t waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think whether it is really necessary— or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we do buy things, choose local products (产品)if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad. It may cost a lot of money to bring them to us.

    REUSE

Reuse means “use again.” Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should look after them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don’t use a paper cup or a paper bag. It’s better to use a china cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.

    RECYCLE

Recycle means “change things into something else.” Although it takes energy to change something into something else, it’s better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighborhood and take part in recycling programs. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.

1Why is it better to choose local products if possible?

A.Things from abroad do harm to our environment. B.Local products are much cheaper.

C.To choose local products means that we love our country. D.Things from abroad aren’t necessary.

2According to the passage, when we find our clothes are out of fashion, what should we do?

    A.Throw them away.

B.If they are still suitable, keep them.

    C.Clean the floor with them.

D.Give them to others and buy new ones.

3What is the helpful activity in our daily life?

A.To shop with plastic bags. B.To use paper cups.

C.To collect old newspapers. D.To burn fallen leaves.

4According to the passage, which of the following is RIGHT?

A.We should learn to grow vegetables.

B.People mustn’t produce waste any more.

C.Children are too young to do anything to save energy.

D.The simplest everyday activities are important to protect our world.

5Which of the following is NOT true according to this passage?

A.Always buy new things and throw away old ones. B.Use china cups instead of paper cups.

C.Recycle something that can be recycled. D.Think first when we want to buy something.

  • 22、   "I'm a big fan of the NBA." "The PM2.5 level is high today." "What's the Wi-Fi password for this restaurant?"

Do you often say or hear such sentences? Just to be clear: NBA is short for National Basketball Association. PM stands for particulate matter, and some say Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity.

Many of you will already know the meaning of these abbreviations(缩写词). Young people often mix them with Chinese language in their conversations. "I knew what the NBA was long before I heard its Chinese name," said Zhang Hangyu, 14, from Hunan. "The English word is easy to remember."

There has been some criticism(批评) of these words. Some people think they harm the purity (纯洁) of the Chinese language. "Some people worship(崇拜) the West crazily and use foreign words to show off," language expert Xia Jixuan told People's Daily.

Should we close the door to foreign words? "We can bring in foreign words and localize(将……本土化) them. That gives the Chinese language new life," said Yao Xishuang, a language official from the Ministry of Education.

Now, experts are working on official translations of popular foreign words. For example, PM2.5. is“细颗粒物”in Chinese.

1Abbreviations like "NBA" come from ________.

A.their Chinese translations B.their English names

C.online conversations D.the mired use of English and Chinese

2What do we know from Zhang Hangyu?

A.Young people use foreign words to show off.

    B.Chinese people worship the West.

C.English abbreviations are easy to remember.

D.Not all English words have Chinese translations.

    3Paragraph 4 is mainly about ________.

A.people's worries about the mixed use of languages

B.the effects of using English abbreviations

C.what we can do to stop the mixed use of languages

D.why Chinese people like using English while speaking

4What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?

A.We should spread Chinese throughout the world.

B.Learning English is necessary for most people.

C.We don't need to use any foreign words.

D.China is trying to localize foreign words.

  • 23、A blind boy sat there with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said, “I am blind, please help.”

There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took out a few coins and dropped them into the hat. He then turned the sign around and wrote something on it. He put the sign back and walked away.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and ask, “Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you do?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth in a different way.”

What he had written was, “Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.”

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second one told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day, but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.

The first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second one told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.

There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story.

Treasure (珍惜) what you have. Someone else has less. Try your best to help those who need your help.

Be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

A.the boy is the man’s son.

B.the man is one of the boy’s neighbors.

C.the boy is blind and needs help.

D.the boy works for the man.

【2】On the sign what the man wrote was, “________”

A.Treasure what we have already had.

B.Today is a beautiful day, but I can’t see it.

C.We are so lucky that we are not blind.

D.Try your best to help those who need your help.

【3】According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?

A.The hat began to fill up after the man wrote some words on the sign.

B.The man took away all the few coins from the hat.

C.The boy wanted to get enough money to go to school.

D.Nobody wanted to give any coins to the blind boy.

【4】The word “recognized” here in Chinese means________.

    A.承认

    B.接受

    C.表扬

    D.辨认出

【5】The best title for this story is _________.

    A.Giving makes receiving!

    B.Be kind and creative!

    C.Be kind to the blind!

D.Do not always get, but offer!

  • 24、I strongly believe that we can have an important effect on anyone we meet. The right words at just the right time could totally change someone’s life.

Years ago, that’s what happened to me. My life was completely changed because a simple three-word phrase was delivered at the right time in just the right way.

When I was 3 years old, my parents discovered I was totally deaf. After asking many educational specialists, doctors, psychologists(心理学家), and parents of other deaf children, they decided to put me in a “mainstream” school. All of my classmates and teachers would have normal hearing.

From the time I started going there in the third grade, I was the only deaf child at Blue Creek Elementary School in the small, quiet town of Latham, New York. From almost the first day there, the other kids made fun of me and called me names mainly because of my hearing aid(助听器)and the way I talked.

I worried throughout elementary school because, in addition to the problems of “fitting in” with the other students, I also struggled with most of my schoolwork.

Although I seemed outgoing, my self-esteem(自尊心)was quite low. I saw myself as an ugly kid wearing a wired-looking(看上去奇怪的)box around his neck who wasn’t even smart enough to keep up with the other kids.

One morning, she asked the class a question. Mrs. Jordan, my fifth-grade teacher, changed all of that with a simple three-word phrase. Mrs. Jordan was a large woman with a voice that bounced(反弹)off the walls of her tiny classroom.

I read her lips(嘴唇)and immediately raised my hand. For once I knew the answer. But, when she called on me, I was afraid. I took a deep breath and nervously answered Mrs. Jordan’s questions. I will never forget what happened next.

Mrs. Jordan pointed directly at me. With sparkling(闪光的)eyes and a wide smile she cried: “THAT’S RIGHT. STEPHEN!”

For the first time in my young life, I was an instant star(一举成名的人). My confidence soared(剧增)like never before.

I decided right then and there that I would make a place for myself in this world. No matter how many obstacles(障碍)I might meet in life, I knew I could overcome them. A simple three-word phrase delivered with incredible enthusiasm(热情)had totally changed my young life. “THAT’S RIGHT, STEPHEN!”

【1】A “mainstream” school is probably where ________.

A.students with disabilities go to study

    B.students can receive extra care

C.most students do not have disabilities

    D.there are many wonderful teachers

【2】What was the author’s school life like?

A.He got along very well with his classmates.

B.He could deal with his homework easily.

C.He kept up with others by working hard.

D.He felt ashamed of his performance in school.

【3】When Mrs. Jordan called on the author, ________.

A.he was so nervous that he forgot the answer

B.he didn’t expect to receive such encouraging praise

C.he was afraid that his classmate might laugh at him

D.he knew he would become an instant star afterwards

【4】With his story, the author mainly intends to tell us that ________.

A.teachers should help their students build their confidence

B.the right words at the right time could make a difference

C.being disabled doesn’t mean being less important than others

D.you need to prove yourself when you are given the chance
