  • 22、   A black hole is a place in outer space with very strong gravity. Gravity is a great force(力量) that shapes the universe. On Earth, gravity makes apples fall from trees. It keeps your feet planted on the ground. The gravity in a black hole is much stronger. It is so strong that nothing around it can get away from it, not even light.

Black holes are invisible. We can't actually see them because they don’t throw back light. But scientists can find them with space telescopes (望远镜)and special tools. The strong gravity makes nearby stars move in a certain way. By studying how the stars move, scientists can find out if they are flying around a black hole. Strange things happen around black holes. This makes black holes a popular subject of science fiction(科幻) stories, although they are very unreal.

A black hole forms when a star dies. The star falls in on itself and turns into a very small point. Because of its small size and huge mass(质量), the gravity will be so strong that it will pull light in and become a black hole. Black holes can grow huge as they continue to pull other things in and “eat” them. Many scientists believe that there are super-massive black holes at the center of galaxies, including the Milky Way.

The idea of the black hole was first suggested by two different scientists in the 18th century: John Michelle and Pierre-Simon Laplace. In 1967, a physicist named John Archibald Wheeler came up with the name “black hole”. Studying black holes can tell us many things about our galaxy and help scientists answer questions about the universe.

1The word “invisible” in Paragraph 2 probably means “_________”.

A.far to go B.easy to find C.difficult to catch D.impossible to see

2The third paragraph is mainly about_________.

A.how big black holes are B.how heavy black holes are

C.how black holes are formed D.how black holes “eat” stars

    3From the passage we learn_________.

A.a star's moving path can help scientists find a black hole

B.writers love writing about black holes because they are real

C.there aren't any black holes at the center of the Milky Way

D.John Archibald Wheeler found the first black hole in space

  • 23、   Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat (微信) without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “type” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers (低头族).

Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people in their short film. Phubbers with different social identities(身份) lose themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die. A pretty woman takes selfie (自拍) at the scene of a car accident. A father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A series of similar events finally leads to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.

Although the ending sounds overstated(夸大), the harm phubbing can do is real. Your health is the first to face the effect and result of it. “ Bending your head to check your cell phone could be harmful to your neck,” A famous doctor said. “Also, staring at(盯着) cell phones for a long time will damage(损害) your eyesight little by little.”

But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. Many people pay more attention to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange situation.

It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.

1Why does the author give the example of a cartoon in Para. 2?

A.To advertise the cartoon made by students.

B.To tell us the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.

C.To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.

D.To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.

2Which of the following is NOT a risk(危险)a phubber may have?

A.His social skills could be affected.

B.He will cause the destruction of the world.

C.His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.

D.He might get separated from his friends and family.

3What may the passage talk about next?

A.Advice on how to use WeChat. B.People addicted to phubbing.

C.Results of phubbing. D.Ways to reduce the risks of phubbing.

Now we live in an old farmhouse. Our nearest neighbors are about one kilometer away. 【4】 all the neighbors are friendly. They often 【5】 (come) to visit us with lots of food.

However, some things in the city and the countryside are the same. In the city, my mom and I loved to go 【6】 (shop) on the weekend. We went to different shopping centers.
