四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you had a headache during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? If so, then you know what pressure is. Pressure is what you feel when you are worried about something.

This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, sad, scared, or afraidall of which can give you a stomachache or headache.

However, there are different kinds of pressure. Some kinds of pressure are good and others are bad. Good pressure might happen when you’re called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech. This kind of pressure can help you to get things better done. For example, you may do a better job on your test if the pressure pushes you to prepare better before the test.

On the other hand, bad pressure can happen if the pressure lasts too long. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting, if a family member is sick, if you’re having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day. That kind of pressure isn’t going to help you. And it can really make you sick.

The best way to fight pressure is to have a balanced life. Make sure you keep yourself in mind: Sleep, Exercise, Relaxation, and Food. If you get enough sleep and eat properly, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you’ll probably fight pressure.

    根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。

1In the writer’s opinion, pressure is what you feel when you are excited about something.

2All kinds of pressure are bad for our health.

3When good pressure happens, it can help you to get things better done.

4You can really feel sick if the pressure lasts long.

5If you want to fight pressure, you’d better have a balanced life.

  • 25、   Are you a TV lover? Can you think of living without TV? Well, you can give it a try this week.

A group of Americans, TV-Turn Off Network, have an idea. They ask children all over the world to turn off their TVs for a week, from April 19 to 25. They want children to watch less TV.

TV-Turn Off Network says watching TV too much can give children big problems with school, health and family. Some American scientists began a study of 1,300 children several years ago. It shows that if children watch too much TV, they don’t do well in school. When children watch lots of TV, they eat more unhealthy food. More of the children are getting overweight and become ill more easily. And too much TV is also bad for their eyes.

Many American families watch TV at dinner time. So they don’t talk much when they eat together. It’s bad for their family life. Also, there is lots of fighting on TV. After watching these programs, some children become violent in real life.

  • 26、Procrastination is something that many people have experienced at some point in their life. The word comes from the Latin words “pro” meaning“for”and“cras”meaning “tomorrow”. But it can be more than just putting off work or a later time; it can be about giving up long-term goals for short-term desires(欲望).

A new phrase has been going around Chinese social media lately, with people describing themselves as “active losers”. It means that they set themselves many goals, but they always find excuses, and never really achieve them. In fact, they are just acing serious procrastination.

I once knew someone in my college who had to drop out (退学) because he preferred video games to study. He went to all his classes and was an active member of school clubs. However, his mind was never really on task. He spent all his free time playing games and believed he could still achieve good grades by "finishing the work tomorrow. That “tomorrow”was the end of the semester, and my college had to ask him to “take a break”.

For those of you who think: “ I'll never procrastinate that badly,” I ask you this: “When did you last set a fitness goal? A weight goal? A reading goal? How many years has it been?”Although a fitness goal may not be so important as school grades, it does not mean the goal should drag on for years. So stop making excuses for yourself; take actions right now and achieve your goals.

1The underlined word “procrastination” means _____in Chinese.

    A. 妄想症 B. 拖延症 C. 强迫症 D. 多动症

2We can infer from the second paragraph that active losers are lack of (缺乏) ____.

    A. long-term goals B. short-term desires

    C. proper excuses D. their self-control

3The main idea of Paragraph 3 is ____.

    A. how the student achieved good grades

    B. how procrastination affected the student's life

    C. how the student fought against procrastination

    D. how the student became an active member of school clubs

4The writer advises us to ____.

    A. take a break B. achieve good school grades

    C. set a fitness goal D. start working towards our goals

    5The writer thinks that_____.

    A. active losers never procrastinate

    B. there is no way to control procrastination

    C. some people don't realize that they procrastinate

    D. it's wrong to ask the student in his college to drop out

  • 27、

Do you want to become better at making small talk with new people? Do you want to become better at networking with others? Nothing will improve your networking ability and your ability to make a successful conversation with other people rather than your curiosity about them.

When you are curious about other people, you will want to discover some of the interesting ways that they are similar to you. When you are curious about them, you’ll also be interested to discover the ways in which they think differently and live differently from you.

When you have curiosity about others, you will be much less self-conscious and your conversations will work a lot better. Instead of worrying yourself, “What can I say next that won’t sound stupid?” you will be focused on learning more about the other person.

Making small talk with strangers can be tricky. We’ve all heard the advice that we should pick something out of our immediate environment and use that as a main point to start our small talk with the other person.

It’s true that this can be a great starting point for a conversation. However, when you focus too much on discussing things like the weather in your city, you can bring the conversation to a painful end very quickly. The other person will sense that you are trying to make a conversation, but that you have no interest in really getting to know him or her.

How can you keep small talk from becoming boring?

One way is to watch the other person for clues they will give you about what is really interesting to them. When you get these clues, use them to start making the conversation a bit more about their life, their opinions, and their experiences.

After you have had a couple of minutes to break the ice, try looking for ways to make the conversation a little bit more personal. Ask the other person for his or her opinion about something that is a bit more personal but not extremely so. The first few minutes of talking to someone new will not be the best time to ask the other person his or her opinion on religious (宗教的) or political(政治的) matters. However, he or she might be happy to discuss his or her favorite team or musical band.

1In Paragraph 1, the writer mainly wants to tell us that___________.

A.it’s hard to make a talk with new people

B.curiosity can help us start a good small talk

C.curiosity helps us know new people quickly

D.it’s hard to make a successful talk with others

2The underlined word “self-conscious” in Paragraph 3 probably means___________.

    A.nervous B.serious C.self-centered D.self-controlled

3What is the best title for the passage?

A.The way of starting small talk.

B.The importance of small talk in our life.

C.Improving our small talk with curiosity.

D.Improving our relationship through small talk.
