lesson how from and I run hard feeling try fail

A few weeks ago, I visited Sydney, a perfect place to surf. I knew I couldn't leave it without going surfing 1. I booked some surf 2 when I was in Byron Bay. Byron Bay is a really popular place for surfers to go!

We first were asked to learn 3 to read the sea conditions and what to expect in the water. Then we did a warmup by 4 along the beach. Next, it was time to learn how to stand on the surfboard. We did it on the sand. After a lot of practice, we were ready to go out into the sea and 5 it out on the water. I have to say, surfing is much 6 than it looks. When you watch people 7 the beach, they make it look so easy! I 8 many times to stand up. Then one of the coaches came to help me and held my board steady.

Finally I learned how to do that 9 by the end of the lesson I had managed to "walk on water". It was a pretty amazing 10 and I felt so proud of myself! This is really an unforgettable experience in my life which makes me learn how to overcome difficulties.

六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、C

One morning on my way to school, I had just seated myself on the bus when suddenly a few peasant-workers got on the bus with big bags, they rushed and shouted to seek the empty seats. One of them just sat next to me, putting his bag on the ground of the bus. The dirty bag touched my new white shoes. I stood up at once and kept me away from those peasant-workers and their big bags.

After class I told my unpleasant experience to my friends, they almost held the same feeling that even in the streets they would keep away from those peasant-workers and their big bags. Then some of us raised a question why they always carried big bags over their shoulders while a little amount of money could buy many cheap things that they needed.

What on earth were there in their big bags? We could only keep our curiosity but had no chance to see inside.

Then one day a chance came when I passed a building site with my friends after school, we saw a group of peasant -workers rushed out the half -finished building to a small bus, they all carried big bags as usual. Suddenly, an old peasant -worker fell on the ground. His bag flew off and hit the ground. The bag broke due to its weight and poor quality, and what were inside the bag separated everywhere. The sight drew the passengers’ attention at once especially ours. We gathered over to see the incident, regardless of the embarrass feeling of the old man.

The poor old man caught a big colorful sharpener(卷笔刀)the first time and sat on the ground, his legs were too weak to support his body because he had fallen down heavily, but he cleaned the sharpener carefully with his clothes, checking whether there was something wrong with it. It was clear that the beautiful sharpener was bought for his grandchild. We were a little moved and we couldn’t help picking up other things on the ground for the old man. A few clothes caught our eyes. They had been washed clean and folded neatly though they were a little old. We quickly gathered all his belongs and took them to the small bus with him.

On our way back, I suddenly imaged the scene when the old peasant-worker got home, his family rushed out to welcome him. Now it is clear what’s in the peasants’ big bags. They carry the worry, miss and warmth out but bring the great hope back.

1How did the writer feel when he stood up on the bus?

    A. unhappy B. satisfied C. interested D. worried

2Why did the old man catch the sharpener first?

    A. Because it was the most expensive. B. Because it was very close to him.

    C. Because there was something wrong with it. D. Because it was a present for his family.

3The peasant-workers always carried big bags with them because ______________.

    A. they had no time to buy things

    B. they liked the things from their home

    C. they wanted to save as much money as possible

    D. the bags were big enough to carry all the things

4We can infer(推断)from the passage that the writer and his friends________.

    A. had pity on the peasant-workers from the beginning

    B. understood what the bags really meant to the peasant-workers

    C. still looked down on the peasant-workers

    D. gathered over in order to help the old man

  • 23、People often think of the North Pole(北极) and the South Pole as similar frozen(冻硬的) wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not much alike as people may imagine.

The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 32℉, at which water turns into ice. Most of the time, it stays below zero. In winter temperatures are usually as low as -30℉.

Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. About 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary and Mathew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and difficulties. They reached the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. It was really a hard trip for them.

There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic(北极圈) on foot. People who stayed there may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited. Few people can live in such a difficult place.

People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes in the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water(水道) called “leads”. Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes.

  • 24、Reading is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons.

First, reading is fun. You can always keep yourself happy if you like reading. You will never feel bored or tired.

Next, you can read a book almost anywhere---in a car, on a plane, or even in the bathroom. All you need is a book!

Another good reason for reading is that it is useful. If you read as a hobby, you will get better and better at it. And you will read faster and find it easier to understand what you read. As your reading skills improve, you will probably find your schoolwork becomes much better.

Some people say that reading is out of date. This is not true. You can read on computers, and the better you read, the better your computer skills will be.

Good readers may become writers too. They always have more things to write about.

If you wish to become a good reader, here are four important points to remember about speed of reading:

Knowing why you are reading---what you are reading to find out---will often help you to know whether to read quickly or slowly.

Some things should be read slowly throughout. Examples are instructions for making or doing something, solving math problems, and science and history books, which are full of important information. You must read such things slowly to remember each important idea.

Some things should be read quickly throughout. Examples are simple stories for enjoyment, letters from friends and news from local newspapers, which tell what was happening to friends and neighbors.

In some of your reading, you must change your speed from fast to slow or from slow to fast as you go along. You need to read certain pages quickly and then slow down and do more careful reading when you come to important ideas which must be remembered.
