24、Historically, most cars have run on gasoline (汽油), but that may change in the future: cars can also run on other liquid fuels (液体燃料) and electricity.
Gasoline is from oil. The energy in gasoline comes from hydrocarbons (碳氢化合物). Gasoline provides great power for cars. However, it causes environmental problems, like air pollution and temperature rise. So gasoline can’t be the best fuel.
Another choice is electricity. Electricity cars can be as efficient as cars using gasoline, and they produce less pollution. But electric cars themselves are more expensive. Good news is that the cost has been lower and there are more and more places for the cars to get electricity ever since 2010.
The other choices are other liquid fuels. Many of these can be stored in the same places as gasoline, and used in the same cars. They can also be friendly to the environment.
One way to make such fuels is to get CO2 from the air and put it in water. Through chemical reaction, hydrocarbons can be created. However, these fuels take up more space.
Another way is to make such fuels from plants which take in carbon from the air. These fuels are greener in use. But not all of them can be as efficient as gasoline.
For a fuel to be the best, people have to be able to afford it. Unluckily, almost every green technology is more expensive than that of using gasoline. Governments and car producers are doing everything they can to cut down the costs. In the end, the best fuel will be both affordable for car users and green for our planet.

Wherever travelers go, cameras are sure to follow. It’s great fun to take photos, and even more fun to showslidesof the trip to friends and relatives when they come back home.
There’s Aunt Sarah, smiling in front of Buckingham Palace; Aunt Sarah, smiling under the Eiffel Tower; and Aunt Sarah, smiling in a Venetian Canal. Everyone knows what Aunt Sarah looks like; they also know what Europe’s great landmarks (显著地面景观) look like.
But a young man named David, just back from a trip to Greece, asked a few friends over to see his slides. The young man had an artist’s eye. His pictures were not of familiar Greek architectures. Instead he took pictures of farmers at work in the field, fishermen repairing their nets, and bearded priests (牧师) bending over their Bibles. He captured (抓住) the color and character of the country. His friends were so interested that they asked for more.
Any amateur (外行) can do the same. All he needs is a simple camera and a little sensitivity. When he learns that a nation lives in its people as well as in its landmarks, he moves from an amateur to an artist.

26、 Most people follow others blindly. Some people feel it safe to follow other people. In some rare cases it might be right, but in most cases this can make a big mistake. Ninety-five percent of people never succeed because they are following the wrong group. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn't follow others blindly.
According to a study, people always follow others when they aren't sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what's right and what's wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it is wrong.
A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others' guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asks himself is, "Are all of those people successful?" Of course not! If you want to follow a group, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you'll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that's why following others makes no sense at all.
Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they're greater than you, then sooner or later you'll discover that you're making decisions you might regret(后悔) later.
However, should we never follow others? No. But just asking you to think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts(怀疑) about the direction they're moving in, don't follow them blindly.
【1】Why do most people like to follow others blindly according to the passage?
A.Because they don't want to be different.

27、Flower-drum dancing is a traditional Chinese folk performance. It is popular across the country, especially in places such as Fengyang in Anhui, Guangshan in Henan, and Haian in Jiangsu.
The Haian flower-drum dance dates back to more than 400 years ago. It became popular in the areas of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The art form was used to show the peaceful lives of local fisherwomen. It is still popular with local people, known for its lively movements and gentle music. In 2007, the Haian flower-drum dance was included in the list of art forms that make up Jiangsu’s provincial intangible(非物质的) cultural heritage.
Yang Peijie, 71, is an inheritor (传承人) of the Haian flower-drum dance. He has been performing the dance for more than 50 years. “It has become a part of my life,” he said.
When Yang was a teenager, he joined an art troupe and started to learn the dance from older artists. At that time, people could only learn it in this way. There were no textbooks. Worrying the art may become lost, Yang spent five years studying the history of the dance and recorded its movements in detail. He visited almost all the local artists and wrote a book about the subject in his thirties.
According to Yang, the dance movements are easy to learn and understand as they come from everyday life. “For example, there is a movement called fengbailiu. It means you twist (扭动) your body like the wind blowing the willow trees.”
Nowadays, Yang focuses on spreading the dance among all age groups, especially the young. He set up a team to work on this. The team members visit about eight schools each year to teach students. It has been added to break-time exercises in many schools. “To make it easier for kids to learn, we break down difficult movements into several simple ones,” Yang said. They also go to communities and parks to teach older people. “It’s my responsibility to pass down the art. I don’t want to see it get lost in my lifetime,” Yang said.

28、Orbiting classroom
Do you still remember the lecture from China’s Tiangong space station last year? On March 23, astronaut Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping ang Ye Guangfu gave another one! It was livestream(直播)worldwide. What fun experiments did they do this time?
Hot “ice”
Last time, the astronauts made a water ball in space. This time, they turned a water ball into an “ice” ball! Well, it’s not a【1】 ice. It’s supersaturated sodium acetate solution(过饱和乙酸钠溶液).
The supersaturated solution is very unstable(不稳定的). The astronauts dropped a small crystal(晶体)of sodium acetate into the ball-shaped solution. Suddenly, more sodium acetate crystals grew, making a white ball of “ice”. This “ice” is anything but cold, however. The p【2】 actually gives off heat.
A bridge of water
How do you build a “bridge” with water? It’s h【3】 to do it on Earth. But in the space station, with little gravity, it’s quite easy!
In the lecture, Wang Yaping first made two water balls on two plates, then let them touch each other. Next, Wang p【4】 the two plates apart, and the water between them didn’t break. It became a “bridge”! This is because the surface tension(表面张力)of water is not disturbed by gravity in space. The surface tension keeps the “skin” of the water strong so that the bridge doesn’t break.
Separate water and oil
If we m【5】 oil and water in a bottle on Earth, they will quickly separate because they have different densities(密度). Gravity brings the water down while the oil stays on top. H【6】, if you do this in the space station, with no gravity, the oil and water will blend together.
How can we separate them, then? In the lecture, Ye Guangfu rotated(旋转)the bottle to c【7】 centrifugal force(离心力). With this man-made gravity, the heavier water is pushed to the furthest point, which brings the lightest oil closer to the center.
