四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、A habit is any action that we have performed so often that it becomes something that we do almost without thinking.  Some of them are thought to be bad. People spend countless hours and dollars each year trying to get rid of these bad habits but often fail. Why? Change is hard work andthere is no shortcut to achieve it. However there is still some advice for you to follow.

First look at why you do it.  In other words what's the result of doing this thing?  If your bad habit is shouting at people when you are unhappy or under pressure what do you get from it?  It may make you feel a little better for a moment. Or maybe you have a bad habit of leaving your homework undone. The result could be that you get more time to spend on the Internet!

Next take a look at them on the other hand.  What do you lose because of your  bad habits?  Shouting at other people is a bad habit because it makes people around you feel bad and unhappy. Leaving your homework undone is a bad habit because you  may be  punished by your teacher.  Having more Internet time means that you lose  the chance to  learn the things  that you need to learn.  When you think that way you'll find that it's not wise to keep your bad habits! Now it is time to make a decision. What will you choose? I'm sure you will choose to do what you think is more important.

【1】 From the first paragraph we know that __________.

    A. a habit is a terrible thing that we can never change

    B. people take countless hours and dollars to get rid of habits

    C. none of the people who try to break bad habits are successful

    D. though it is difficult we can still do something about our bad habits

【2】 The underlined sentence "there is no shortcut to achieve it" means that ________.

    A. it is not easy to get rid of bad habits

    B. there is a long way and a short way

    C. something dangerous may happen

    D. we must cut it in a short time.

【3】 According to the reading if you want to get rid of your habits you have to _____.

    A. talk to others when you are in low spirits

    B. know why you do what you do

    C. finish your homework first

    D. spend less time on the Internet

【4】 Which of the following does NOT happen because of a bad habit according to the

     reading?

    A. You are punished later.

    B. Making people around you feel unhappy.

    C. You lose the chance to learn something.

    D. You leave your homework at home by accident.

【5】  The main purpose of this passage is to __________.

    A. introduce and describe

    B. complain and disagree

    C. explain and advise

    D. discuss and argue

  • 25、The Internet is a place where we can talk freely. But it is also a place where we pay little attention to whether or not our language ability is becoming poorer.

According to a recent survey by China Youth Daily, more than 76 percent of young people in China said they felt their Chinese language skills have weakened. They don’t use difficult rhetorical technique (修辞手法) as often anymore. It is believed that digital technology and Internet emojis (表情符号) have changed their communication habits.

For example, direct expression is the preferred way to communicate online. When one sees something funny, one will simply type “hahaha” or use the “cry-laugh” emoji, Beijing Youth Daily reported. Also, “copy and paste (粘贴) ” culture is getting popular. People simply pick up expressions from the Internet without much thought. Many begin to use a fixed set of sentence patterns, such as “Whenever you disagree with each other, you ...”

Cai Xiaojia (not her real name), a teacher from Fuzhou, told China Youth Daily that words in general are being used less. For example, people can share photos online with little need for words to describe them.

If this trend (趋势) continues, it could influence our way of thinking, People’s Daily reported. When we use expressions without thinking, it means we have become too lazy to express our real feelings. If teenagers adopt casual (不正式的) methods of expression like emojis, they could lose the ability to use words properly.

To improve our language skills, experts suggest that we should try to think independently and develop our own language logic (逻辑).They also suggest that we should read more works of literature (文学). “Keep using different words to show your own feelings,” said Shen Xiaolong, a professor in the Chinese department at Fudan University.

【1】What does the survey by China Youth Daily show?

A.About 76 percent of Chinese people are losing their language skills.

B.Over three quarters of young Chinese people think their language skills have weakened.

C.Rhetorical technique is becoming less important in the digital era (电子时代).

D.Young Chinese people don’t need to use words to describe photos they posted.

【2】What do Paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly tell us?

A.What people’s new communication habits are.

B.Which phrases are most popular on the Internet.

C.Why young people like using emojis.

D.Where young people learn new expressions.

【3】If teenagers continue to use the direct expressions and emojis, people could become __________.

    A.good at thinking creatively

    B.unable to use words properly

C.less interested in talking with others

    D.satisfied with their laziness

【4】The underlined word “adopt” in Paragraph 6 means “__________”.

    A.suggest

    B.use

    C.need

    D.describe

【5】What can we do to improve our language skills?

    A.Think like an adult.

    B.Stop using emojis.

    C.Read works of literature

    D.Use difficult language.

  • 26、   Although people around the world seem to enjoy drinking coffee, they don’t all have the same coffee culture. In Europe, coffee shops are common places for people to meet friends and to talk while drinking coffee. Instead, people in North America liked to drink coffee in their homes with friends. The coffee culture in the USA changed when Starbucks coffee shops spread across the country.

The first Starbucks coffee shop opened in 1971 in Seattle, Washington, in the USA. It was a small coffee shop that cooked its own coffee beans. The coffee shop’s business did well, and by 1981 there were three Starbucks stores in Seattle.

Things began to change for the company in 1981. That year, Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks. Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, which caused his great interest. Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did. In 1982, the original Starbucks owners hired(雇佣) Schultz as the company’s head of marketing(市场营销).

In 1983, Schultz traveled to Italy. The special environment of the espresso(浓咖啡) bars there caught his eyes. Back in the USA, Schultz created an environment for Starbucks coffee shops that was comfortable and casual, and customers everywhere seemed to like it. Starbucks began opening more stores across the USA. Then the company opened coffee shops in other countries as well. Today, there are more than 16,000 Starbucks coffee shops all over the world.

However, that does not mean Starbucks has not had problems. In fact, many Starbucks stores have closed over the past few years. On the one hand, this is because there were too many coffee shops competing for business in one small area. On the other hand, stores in some countries closed because the coffee culture there did not match with the “feel the same everywhere” environment offered by Starbucks.

1What is the passage mainly about?

A.What kind of coffee people like. B.What can be added to coffee.

C.How a company has grown. D.How good coffee can be made.

2Which is true about Starbucks’ first ten years of business?

A.It opened only three stores. B.Its head of marketing worked in New York.

C.It was run by Howard Schultz. D.Its coffee beans were from Italy.

3Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A.Starbucks closed most of its US shops.

B.Schultz opened a Starbucks shop in Italy in 1983.

C.Starbucks offer a comfortable and casual environment.

D.There are over 16,000 Starbucks in the US.

4Why did some Starbucks close in some places?

A.Because all of the coffee tasted the same.

B.Because the coffee in these places was too expensive.

C.Because the people had no coffee culture in these countries.

D.Because there were too many coffee shops in one place.
